Red Wolf... Wild Weasel?

Post by DAMartin »

Thanks to this same site, I have read some issues of BAF, and I have noted that the Red Shadows member :wolf: later appears as Cobra member :redwolf2: . Not only his appearance is reminiscent of the American Wild Weasel figure, but there are some issues where a similar character is referred sometimes as Wild Weasel. It's also worth of note that the other Red Shadows who became Cobras also changed their names ( :baron: became :cobracommander: , :jackal: became :destro: ). So, is Red Wolf one and the same as Wild Weasel? The only thing that gives a chance to the contrary is that the other name-changed characters became the leaders of Cobra. Why would :redwolf2: remain with his old comrades without asking for a similar rank? If he didn't know who they previously were, why did he join them? and, most important, is Red Wolf the BAF version of Wild Weasel?

the Wild Weasel figure was packed in Series 3 release Roboskulls and given the name Red Wolf, the same as redeco versions of Short Fuze and whatsisname became Moon Dancer and Dolphin for the re-released Triad and Sea Lion. The Baron has said he doesn't believe 'Red Wolf II' is the same guy as Red Wolf I. no back-story about RW2 has been established.

I did say that I was happy for Red Wolf II to be retconned as Wild Weasel for the BFTB Colouring Project as they were primarily aimed at attracting US readers, but to my mind he is Red Wolf. I'm not overly keen on rewriting history.

I have a fanfic story in mind which is all about :wolf: and :moondancer: . It will cover their shared history and also their experience during the events of World Enemy No. 1 and will show their transitions into :redwolf2: and :moondancer2: . I still need to find a way to slot in :dolphin: / :dolphin2: ideally.

But to answer your question there has been no official account. The toys were just product overstock from the Palitoy transition to the GI Joe range, many of the initial Cobra Roboskulls were sold with the original Red Wolf figure.

Thank you for the reply, but my doubt was different. I wanted to know if Red Wolf was the same character who was named Wild Weasel in one or two BAF stories. I'd have tought they were just sharing a toy mold (like Red Laser and Cobra Commander) if not for Wild Weasel piloting the Roboskull rather than the american Rattler. So my question is: are Red Wolf 2 and Wild Weasel one and the same?

PD: Don't misunderstand me. The previous answer, while not being what I was asking, was also very useful.

There is no Wild Weasel in BAF continuity. He wasn't released as a figure in the UK until the Marvel UK era. The strips you are referring were altered for the colouring project (Venom of Cobra and London in Peril). If you check the original black and white versions you'll see he is Red Wolf.

Red Wolf (II) and Wild Weasel are the exact same toy, but not the same character.

If you like. Also, Skelly never appeared in BAF so deserves a role. And Mutons! Lots of Mutons!

In fact, TKW you have just provided me with my Dolphin angle!! Thanks!

Thanks! sor about the confusion. Every time I came to read, I selected the color versions of the strories which had one. Don't kill me, but it raises another question: In the Marvel UK US-reprinted issues featuring Wild Weasel, was his name changed to Red Wolf?
