Help needed for work in progress custom !

Post by Andy1672 »

.
This guy has been "work in progress" for as long as I can remember.

He set out to be an RAF pilot for my wave one custom collection.

I havent bothered painting him yet because I cant figure out how to make him a coat ?

I didnt want to be too elaborate, I want to try and keep him looking as though he would belong in the first series.

anyone got any ideas ?

I've heard some people using thin vinyl for coats so I would try that first, or at least on the top and use some actuall cloth on the lower half to leave full range of motion. Thats my guess.

the guy in the model shop suggested using vinyl. he also suggested using this really thin masking tape for straps/belts. he said when its painted it dries like leather

that could be an easy option ? I may have to try a sample piece !

I'd explore the Star Wars figs first. What about that kickass Winter Red Shadow custom?

Thanks for the tip ! Im sensing this is going to be more work than I had anticipated.

However I shall ponder for a day or 2 and then decide wether or not to shelve this dude or finish him.

My mate has a Gambit X-Men figure wiht a removable coat. It might be too large but there are probably others. Lego Belville is a similar scale.

Andy, can't help with the Great coat but may be the colour of the uniform. For RAF Blue gray I use Tamiya XF-18. I've been playing with this on AF Figures after an idea from Double Tap about an AF Air Force. Picture below shows the paint on the figures. They need a second coat and some satin varnish. Hope that helps a wee bit.

When confronted by a difficult problem you can solve it more easily by reducing it to the question. How would the Lone Ranger handle this?

Thanks Paul !

I will make a note of that for possible future reference, I am partially tempted to abandon this guy for now.
