Leicester Museum?

Post by steve »

Leicester Council (where Palitoy was based) are launching an online Museum catalogue over the next couple of years, http://www.leics.gov.uk/museums/collect ... /index.htm
This will include a Toys and Games collection!

Will it include any Action Force?

In the mean time they issued this press release about their collections:
Official opening of countys new museum Resources Centre

Leicestershire County Council is officially opening a new Resources Centre to help safeguard precious museum collections for future generations.

The Chairman of Leicestershire County Council, Mrs Anna Pullen, is inviting Elizabeth Dalkeith, Chair of the East Midlands Museums, Libraries and Archives Council, to open the County Council centre in Barrow on Soar at 2pm on Thursday 17th October.

The opening marks the culmination of five years work to bring the collections under one roof in the County, following Local Government Reorganisation in 1997....The Centre is a new unit providing some 1300 square metres of floor space, with 1.7 kilometres (approximately one mile) of shelving.

There are separate store rooms for items which need carefully controlled conditions, a work room for processing new acquisitions, and offices - including one for use by the public....

From more recent times, there are Home and Family Life collections, including Coalville-made Palitoy dolls and action figures, and some 2,500 Working Life items, mainly local agricultural implements and craft tools. There are also reserve collections from the Harborough, Melton and Charnwood Museums....

As well as being an important resource for academic study, the collections will be used to create changing exhibitions in the County Councils Snibston Discovery Park and other museum sites. Over the next two years the most important collections will be catalogued and put on a new website, making them available to a world-wide audience.

The centre is open only by prior appointment. Individual visits can be made on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 10am and 4pm. Visits for groups of up to 15 people can be arranged at any time when the relevant curatorial staff are available. To contact the Resources Centre telephone 01509 815514 or 01509 814583.
