New York Toy Fair 2008: GI Joe

Post by Kambei »

Well, guess the foreign market is unimportatnt to Hasbro. The 25th Anniversary of The Red Shadows passes without any new figures.

I have to say that I am rather disappointed with habro's display this year. Only one or two figures in the flesh that we hadn't already seen pictures of out of the promised 40 single card and 15 comic packs. Odd selection of veicles too, although the VAMP looks nice. I expect the armadillo and trouble bubble were chosen from the lower end of the price range to see how vehicles do in overall sales. Pity they picked two of the crappest, IMO. Why not give us something like a water moccasin instaed?

IMO, the one light in the darkness is this:

This is in with the MASS Device set, although I am sure it will start turning up loose pretty quickly. If I can get ahold of any, I plan of converting them into Baron Ironblood's all female underwater attack team, The Sirens.

The res of the GI Joe pics are here:

Hasbro knows Photoshop too. The press photos give a stunning impression, but with 25th I have found out that quality left a lot to be desired when I had the items in hand.

Not true. Hasbro is running several toylines in Europe. Action Man is actually very succesfull in Europe. A few years ago Hasbro tried relaunching GI Joe in Europe and it failed dramatically. There is hardly any market for these type of action figures in Europe anymore. A handfull of crazy collectors like us do not make the difference. Hasbro targets children, not collectors. Just because we, collectors, don't get what we want does not mean a company is not interested.

From the content of replies to various emails I have sent to Hasbro Customer Services both here and in the U.S. over the last few years, I would have to disagree with you on that.

Those Baroness in wet suit figures are just begging to become Red Shadows. Going to pick up some as soon as they start turning up loose. Either that or get some Scarlett and Lady Jaye figures if the price is too high, and work up some scuba gear.

im pretty happy about the trouble bubble being re-released, i do like it and the two original versions are getting quite pricey...

not interested in the new sculpts as they dont mix with my original figures and ive got far too many of those to give up...

From a GI Joe vieuwpoint, you are right. Hasbro is running loads of brands in Europe: Transformers, Furreal, My little Pony, K'nex, etc. I do not agree with you with the statement that Hasbro is not interested in Europe. Hasbro is running things differently in Europe. That is what we call segmentation.

I will also be wanting a Weather Dominator. It will fit in nicely with a large Doctor Who dio I have planned.

ya that baroness would make a great Red Shadows diver, a female at that!

the motorcycle would make a nice custom of the original quarrel Z force one.

and some of the indiana jones stuff would make great red shadows.

I see a few nazis vechiles and figures that would be cool , including a black major one!

This is the same scale as Action Force and would make a great Shadow vehicle.
