Snake-Eyes/Destro Story

Post by Sentinel Red »

Hi guys,

Nice to see there's still somewhere flying the flag for the Shadows even after all this time. I've been looking through the wonderful collection of old stories from Battle Action Force and was wondering if anyone could help me with something...

Basically, I'm sure that not long before Marvel UK got hold of the license, there was an annual that featured a black & white (or possibly even red and white!) story where Snake-Eyes among others was on a flight back to base following a mission, the plane is shot down and he's the only survivor. Armed with only a knife, he takes out an entire platoon of Cobra troops and dumps Destro into a pool of quicksand before making his escape. It was a fabulous little story, part Rambo, part Predator with the Cobra troops getting more and more nervous as they're whittled down one by one but here's the thing - I can't find it anywhere and everyone I've mentioned it to doesn't even seem to know it exists as obviously, Snake-Eyes didn't make it into the UK toyline with Duke, Gung Ho et al (obviously we had the SAS Stalker character previously but this was definitely Snake-Eyes in the story, right down to him being utterly silent throughout).

Do any of you guys remember it? Am I just imagining it?

Warm regards,

An Avid Fan

A warm welcome to you, Sentinel Red!

We have every single Action Force comic online, you can either view them as online thumbnail galleries, or if you click on the gallery titles, download them for your own collection - you will need to install CDisplay to view them (be sure to configure it to"fit-to-width").

That particular story has indeed had a BFTB revamp, as has The Great Cobra Robbery which also features Snake Eyes. As with all of our recoloured strips, the CDisplay download is available in the original Black and White format. I managed to bleach out all of the red from those annual stories.

Enjoy!

Cheers guys, that's the one. It was the fact it was coloured that threw me, I must have scanned over it without registering it was the same story. Thinking about it, it was always kind of wierd that they published a great little story about a character none of us had heard of until that point and for whom there wasn't a toy (over here, of course) but thank goodness they did. Were they the only Snake Eyes stories we got before the handover then? I don't actually remember that other one but it was great to see it - thought bubbles!

As for how I found you, your fame precedes you - every self respecting fan knows this is the place to come for classic Red Shadow-era stuff! Hopefully one day we'll get something like a 25th Anniversary version of the best bad guys of the lot.

Take care and be seeing you!
