Which paint variants...

Post by Thundershot »

.. of :blastoff: & :hawkwind: came with the silver SA80?

Was it the painted or non painted leg strap versions?

Cheers

Tended to be the earlier release ones - which are generally the non painted leg versions. I say generally, as the Morris dancer tassels ones are far less common.

Thanks Mr D

I've never figured out if the painted tassels :blastoff: , :hawkwind: & :phones: were the early or later versions... just as with :commando:'s webbing.

I mean, like, were the painted straps an early feature, which was lost due to cost (or production) reasons, or a later added bonus detail... maybe it's just simply down to which factories assembly line the toys came off.

I'm not sure either! Prototype shots in the trade catalogue show painted tassles, but then most (I suspect all!) with silver gun have no paint. Then, all ones with paint, seem to be on foreign cards, usually with laser rifle. All suggesting later production!

So Palitoy may of substituted the SA-80's (& Sten guns), in the early days, as the laser rifles may not of been ready or available in time... or, during mid production, they simply ran out of the correct accessories & kept the girls in the packaging going by urgently digging into the stock cupboard:

:cmmdrold: "Um...they look 'Spacey', use them"

I often regret that Palitoy never put Star Wars style 'Country Of Origin stamps' on :AFLogo: figures, it may of helped in identifying all of the various variants all these years later.

Totally!
I think there are differences between manufacturing locations (how many BTW?), but also, what they had lying around!
Never really given consideration to weapon with type - interesting (*runs and updates XL file)

I've been archiving my Star Wars Figures this last couple of days...so, naturally :screwy:, C.O.O. stamps & paint variants have been on my mind recently.

 I'd never realised how many different tiny variations there are!!!
Who'd of guessed there's two different mould variations for Combat Poncho Leia's (hardly noticeable) rank badge??? :dizzy:

Hopper, have you seen that tread about all the different numbered :shadow: Bazooka's yet?

How the hell did I miss this one?
What differently numbered bazookas?
Where?
When?
Who?

Speak man, I'm in the midst of a variant induced breakdown, and need a fix... :panic:

Hi Hop,

I think the original threads was lost in the crash.
Every bazooka has a single digit number moulded onto its handle, this must be some form of tooling reference on Hasbro's part.
I can't remember exactly if the number series goes all the way up to nine or not.

This opens a whole new Pandora's Box of variation collecting, are all the Bazookas with the same number exactly the same? Are differently numbered Bazookas all slightly different to each other? Add into the mix that Bazookas are available in both soft & hard plastic... this should keep you nice & busy for a while ;-)
