Upcoming plans

Post by The Baron »

Well, Summer is over and there's been no sign of Steve, I think it's safe to assume he won't be resuming mod duties any time soon. With that in mind I have a few changes in mind for the site, mostly cosmetic ones, but they could make a huge difference.

I was always happy with the way that BFTB had no actual text, just links (every image or icon opens somethng), but it has mutated into a much larger animal now. In all honesty the figure archive is of greater importance than the comic scans.

I'm thinking of splitting it into several distinct categories, the figure archive, the forum and the comic archive as primaries, and then separate sections for Customs, ChadGhost's Travelling Muton (he will return!!) pages and a Fan-Project section - so much of our best work is buried in the pages of the forum.

Fan Projects I would like to include are the BFTB Colouring, AriaIsland's AF Reborn, JamarMiller's Red Dawn, Barto's Timeline project, links to rjgibb's Wikipedia work and hopefully some diorama's, with permissions of course. I can't decide whether to group Customs by the toys or by the customisers, or where to put the custom filecards.

Most importantly, I'm thinking of ditching the AFOnline tag altogether and bringing it all together under BloodForTheBaron. Most people can't find the figure archive at the moment, and the whole thing is disjointed and messy to my eyes. Would anyone object to this move?

Finally, I'd like to approach some advertisers. I'd only consider Joe related merch, like they have at YoJoe, if anyone knows how to go about this I could do with some tips, please. This whole thing costs about £100 a year to keep online - not a huge deal really but people have pointed out that I'm silly not to. I am against the idea of making BFTB a paysite.

So please, let me know what you think. This is your forum after all. I haven't forgotten Louie0316's idea of a separate Links section. I may post some opinion polls when I have a better idea of where this is all going. Until then, please throw some ideas into the pot on this thread.

ya everything sounds good Baron, and Ya its foolish not to have some advertisers here on the boards even if its not directly joe related I see no problems, comic info or any info that could be remotely connected would be fine, this site shouldnt cost you anything to run

and definately loose the AFonline tag and bring it all under Bloodforthebaron.com !

Cheers guys. The only way of dealing with the spam acounts is to open the admin panel in a separate window, copy the user ID to the management section, click OK, scroll through the details, tick the delete box, hit OK, and then go back to the management section and start over. It's a nightmare to use.

I try to keep on top of it but I've been away for three weeks and in that time we have over 400 new spammers. I'll knuckle under and plough through them sometime but today is 1/2 price ebay listing so I'll be sorting boxes of crap today LOL.

What I would like to is to be able to lock the memberships section and have new users e-mail me or something. I'll have to have a trawl through the phpbb2 FAQ.

I could always lose the Zoids and Death's Head galleries, I added Battle because many American fans wanted to know more about the Battle side of Battle Action Force.

If and when I get time my next project is to scan the Battle strip from the AF issues and have them complete (Not for BFTB, for Captain Hurricane's site).

Good call on comic advertising, Jamar, never even occurred to me.

The transition is now complete!!

The transition is now complete!!

You may have noticed a few cosmetic changes to the forum over the past week; a new logo, some shuffling of topics, a couple of header articles, new link posts and so on. Today I have (finally) managed to add the missing Scrap Iron and Ripcord emoticons.

There have been changes over at the comic archive too. Zoids and Death's Head have moved on and the remaining Battle, Action Force and Battle Action Force galleries have all been spruced up and brought in to line. I have also replaced all of the tatty title panels and added a border to each one to highlight the .cbr downloads.

There's more. Now instead of being thrown straight into the comic archive, if you click on the title pic of the http://www.bloodforthebaron.com homepage, you will find yourself taken to the new Menu section. Here there are links for the AFOnline toy archive, the BFTB comic archive, this forum and (drum roll please) the return of the Travelling Muton Chronicles!!

I still intend on making a separate gallery section to highlight the excellent customs and creativity, and also to embed all of the links in their own page, but for now, and beautifully coinciding with our 200th board member, I am proud as punch to announce http://bloodforthebaron.com is firing on all cylinders.

Lots of work, little changes, huge difference.

I've just deleted all of the spam accounts, andit seeme ot have taken care of the topic reply notification problem and duplicate thread posting problems (touch wood). I have decided to make it a weekly task from this point on, I was doing them daily and got sick of it - and so they quickly built up again.

So, with that now done, I would like to take this moment to welcome our latest recruits; daisy01, The Giant Zrk, Flash, Gordon's Alive!, Legoloverman, News Sensation, paulcannon, Soapy, GIJOEY, AirborneRigger, DPrime, shadow_of_firefly, thedupleman, Mr.MojoRisin, BP and FRIDGE.

I have also updated the Links section of the main site to include all of our friends from around the globe. Please PM me if you know of any other worthy entrants. http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/Blood/Banner.html

Aw dammit I've lost all my update posts!

OK, I've given both the Toy Archive and Travelling Muton sections a makeover to bring them in line with the rest of the site, today I have redone the Thanks list to include all site contributors and also the BFTB colourists.
