some advice needed on AM

Post by gung-hoeddie »

i have been looking at the Action man range on eBay for my sins preparing myself for the assault ;-) only messing i'm interested in buying maybe 4 or 5 with the idea of a paratrooper maybe some world war 2 uniform style AM the more army based figures as i have a small area in the house where they would look great, only i'm not sure about pricing on these and what to look out for, what problem areas there are, all that sort of thing, i'm only looking for early ones the sort i had as a boy not the newer ones i'm not keen, i've been to a few car boot sale's and not even had a sniff yet. any advice would be appreciated.

Eddie,

depends if you are going 4oth or vintage? The 40th Para at the moment goes for around £50 MOC as do some of the others you might be looking for (WW2 infantry, RM etc) Others are around the £25 mark Modellers loft still has some with 20% off at the mo also a good ebay store is Lucy Equipment. These are just the uniform prices, boxed soldiers go for about £20

As for vintage, depends what way the wind is blowing!

I would advise to go the 40th route, get the buzz out of opening the uniforms!

Hope this helps.

PS stay away from the ceremonial stuff, have spent most of the evening kitting three of them out in these uniforms!! These must have been designed for adult collectors in the past.......
When confronted by a difficult problem you can solve it more easily by reducing it to the question. How would the Lone Ranger handle this?

I've managed to get a couple of bulk lot hauls for very little, so all mine is Toltoys Vintage stuff. I'm looking at a couple of 40th uniforms as a way of preserving the older ones I have, like my Luftwaffe pilot. In saying that, the only way I by VAM is bulk lots that slip under the radar. Even 40th stuff can be bloody expensive. So far I have nearly completesd my wants list with just 2 lots. I've been VERY lucky.

There are a couple of modern uniforms/MAM that look great too

Good luck mate. Oh, and PM me your wants list I may have a couple of loose spares.

You've been very lucky Chop' it's taken me years of trawling though car boot sales, toy fairs & charity shops to get my little band together.

Eddie, one thing I would advise, is to find a good reference guide book or other source of information if you're going to concentrate on Vintage.

I said that I'd never buy any 40th stuff but have ended up with 4 of 'em plus a couple of replacement parts for my vintage ones ( a set of U.S. webbing & a yellow rope for :eagle2: ) as dealers were just asking silly money for the originals, & will probabbly end up with a couple more before I'm done.
More news, as its made, from new Action Force!

i could see a huge divide on prices which has prompted me to ask for advice, what would be a fair price range do you think?

And I'm sitting here sewing new domes on rusted VAM trousers ;-) Going to do some patching soon too. Best get all the VAM I want before you log into Ebay again, Eddie.

Careful with that Hoover, Eugine.....
