I think the reason for 155 1/2 Destro is that IDW are trying to keep readers but have noticed on the boards many people don't like the sci-fi elements in the rebooted series in fact they are pretty rabid about it. So to keep those people happy they decided to carry on where Marvel and larry left off years ago. But to me all they have done is split readers again into those who like DDP and considered it canon and those that didn't causing another rabid debate.

that is exactly what they have done, I just cant belive cutting the fan base into even more segments is good business practice,

the people that want the original continuity back usually are in more favor of it ALL being back

And you know what's worse? No offense to Hama, but I'm sure not only the DDP new charas (Kamakura, the Red Shadows, Sei Tin, the Stall brothers, Wraith, etc) will be ignored, but also the ones from the latest Marvel issues (like Slice) despite already existing in that continuity.
Well, maybe Kamakura has a slight chance due to already existing as Sean Collins in the Marvel run, but the others...

They did it with Transformers. Everybody wanted them to finish the unpublished Dreamwave stories (including the Joe crossover), but they ignored everyone and started from scratch.

Now, years later, they've decided to continue on from the end of the Marvel run. And this is with a separate continuity for the movie universe as well. They really don't think more than two steps ahead, I'm afraid to say.

But DDP did finish its story at least, Dreamwave didn't.
Though the current case is more similar to the Transformers Classics comic, that continues from the end of the first comic series and ignores the second series (Generation 2). However, thanks to Transformers' multiversal nature, the writers could explain that thery were splinter timelines from the same source and the G2 story still exists as other universe

DDP could have have carried on if Hasbro hadn't pulled their license DA. Plot lines like what Zartan had planned next could have been done and the Red Shadows could have come back for revenge after regrouping from their losses. In Marvel's run other threats were featured mainly in Special Missions so AE could have expanded on them as well.
Countries like Borovia were under Cobra rule at the end of marvel's run and never seen again so there are plenty of roads DDP could have gone down if allowed and it was thought out.

I find plausible the :enemy: idea and tying Marvel's loose ends, but I think the :zartan: stuff wasn't so a new subplot, but rather an end to the character's story.
