Red Shadow Pilot
Red Shadow Pilot
For a previous custom I bought a "Fire & Rescue" toy from the local Dollarama. The toy consisted of an emergency kit locker - the bit I wanted, which painted up nicely, and this monstrosity:
Possibly the worst figure I've ever seen. Low quality plastic, partly, badly painted, loose joints and crucially bearing no resemblance to a firefighter at all. But, it wasn't broken so I couldn't bear to bin it.
Anyway, glad I didn't, lesson learned: there's nothing that can't be fixed with a lick of paint:
'Red Shadow Pilot' (a generic figure)
From that last picture it's clear that this quick and easy custom involved zero imagination on my part, especially the name. But, I think it works and the young un's happy with it. In a small way the before-after transformation demonstrates to me just how brilliantly spot-on Palitoy were when they came up with the Red Shadow colour scheme.

It's amazing what a lick of paint can do ain't it
Good work.
The quality of cheap toy has really plummeted with this world wide global turn down hasn't it? I mean, one of the pound shops where I live was selling Hasbro G.I.Joes (Spy Troops) a year or so back, & even the knock off figures were of a fairly high standard plastic & paint detail wise..but now their just awful.

Nice work mate. I don't like to see anything go to waste. You've done your little bit to reduce landfill and made a great custom in the process.

That would make a good Shadow vehicle Humby.

Thanks everyone.
The plane didn't need customising, as Humby's link shows. Like Ironblood said it's a great plane for the Red Shadows - angular lines, almost in the right colours - maybe the red is a little deep, and it even has an escape pod thingy that comes out of the bottom for His Nibs. My kid uses it for Cobra/Shadows depending on the game.

Have you got a red spray you can use Monkfish the plane looks too salmon red compared to your pilot? Everytime I see your name it reminds me of the Fast Show Monkfish with the catchphrase "Put your knickers on and make a cup of tea".

Ironblood, yep, the name is homage to Inspector Monkfish - if I ever get up to 1000 posts that will be my choice for custom rank.
You're right that the plane is not a good colour match, but I can't repaint it because it belongs to my kid, one of his Christmas presents - the customs also go to him once finished.
Here's the Baron in the escape pod:
