Tomahawk and Skystriker molds

I was just on IDW's forum when I read the following:- And while we're on the topic of vehicles, I'm really hoping that Hasbro will rerelease more of the vintage vehicles. The X-30 and Rattler Target exclusives were great! Hopefully the Tomahawk will be next

Don't hold your breath. I asked about the Tomahawk at last year's SDCC when I spent 45 mins of Preview Night interrogating Hasbro's GI Joe marketing director. As the mold for the chopper no longer exists, it is doubtful we would see it. Sadly, this is the Skystriker's fate as well, it seems. Building new molds for vehicles that size costs a considerable six figures (I wanna say that a Skystriker from scratch would be half a million dollars before the plastic was even poured!) and that would be passed on to us. Making my two favorite vehicles somewhere around $75.00 at retail.

So don't sell your vehicles if you have them as they probably won't be made again.

Hard to judge Hasbro's actions here.

Did the molds deteriorate or just get thrown out as obsolete?

Do they have room to store the molds of all toys likely to warrant a comeback?

Beyond the small community of collectors would there be enough kids interested in buying new Skystrikers and Tomahawks rather than current designs?

It's a real shame that these things have been lost but given just how much stuff Hasbro makes each year, over all their ranges, it's no surprise that the molds of toys with contemporary designs like these would slip by the wayside.

My experience from the Star Wars world is that Hasbro does lose molds (one particular example is that of the Cloud Car) quite often. Its usually when they move premises or they are just careless, outside of the collecting community there isn't that much interest in keeping the molds as most of the time they are seen as worthless.

However all might not be lost. Hasbro despite saying for years that large vehicles were a major no no, they have recently released the AT-TE, The Turbo Tank, The New Millennium Falcon and look to be adding to that range. All new molds and all large so it might not to a total lost cause.

The new Millennium Falcon and X-wings are great. Better then their earlier versions for sure. I wish I had more time to pl.. set them up in action poses. Both are bigger too. Local TRU have a Tie with the bigger wings and I'm struggling VERY hard to resist. $60au and it looks freaking awesome. I was going to hang the MF from the roof but was worried it would cave in.

Righto, so now it seems is a good time to invest in original Skystrikers and cloud cars. TBH I'd very much doubt Hasbro would bother even if they did have the original moulds. We would be the only ones interested, I'd imagine.

Tomahawk and the Skystriker are common on ebay, obviously sellers judge the value of these from one extreme to another however with the frequency that they turn up i don't see the point in getting more made to be honest.

I can. They are rarer than rocking horse sh*t over here. As most Joe stuff is, and if a reissue were introduced in the local stores, it would save me a fortune. The freight on a Skystriker to Aussie is usually around $50us. Least it has been when I've been looking. Not looked at Tomahawks tho.

Cheers Eddie. I've had a couple of times were I've just had to grin and bear it. I got a lot of limbs from the Us but mostly stick to one supplier, quick, cheap and easy. Bit like me
