Whatever happened to that guy? Did he die? (Trent seems to have "replaced" him later on.)

Again, different universe, Major Flagg was a Battle-era character, and bears absolutely no relation to the USS Flagg that I know of!

In the Marvel G.I.JOE comics of the 1980s there WAS A General Flagg, he was a very skilled young officer who became the youngest ever General. He was put in charge of the G.I.JOE Team.....the original line up of:

HAWK-FIELD COMMANDER,
SNAKE EYES-COMMANDO,
SCARLETT-INTELLIGENCE,
ZAP-BAZOOKA TROOPER,
FLASH-LAZER TROOPER,
GRUNT-INFANTRYMAN,
ROCK N ROLL-MACHINE GUNNER,
STALKER-RANGER,
CLUTCH-VAMP MK 1 DRIVER,
STEELER-MOBAT TANK OPERATOR,
GRANDSLAM-H.A.L LAZER OPERATOR/JUMP JET PACK PILOT.

Flagg led the team, he was always dressed in his officers uniform and wore sunglasses....During an attack on the original PITT (their base underneath The Chaplians Assistants Motorpool at Fort Worth) Major Flagg was shot in the head and sadly died....in tribute to him, the USS FLAGG aircraft carieer was built.

General Austin then took over the running of the team. He actually looked more like the Battle Action Force Major Flagg but a little more older and pudgier. Upon his suffering a heart attack following health scares, he promoted Hawk to GENERAL HAWK and made him Commander in Chief of the G.I.JOE team....by that time, Duke had come along and had become the teams First Sergent and Field Commander....However, Hawk led by example and always went on any mission or into battle as he felt a good leader led by example....

Now in the toyline he had a son and thus a figure made, and I think it would be incredibly cool if The son of the US GENERAL FLAGG came back to run ACTION FORCE
