Smokey Situation
Was hoping for a bit of advice. I just won a Triad Star Fighter off the 'bay. Good price, great seller and all that, only one slight problem is that when it arrived it reaked (and still does) of cigarette smoke! Anyone know any way of getting rid of this? I was thinking of soaking it in soapy water, but I don't want to ruin the stickers. Otherwise, I guess my Triad Fighter will just have to smell like Moondancer's been on 40 B&H a day!
Re: Smokey Situation
Hmmm... Maybe just placing it outside overnight would do it?

Re: Smokey Situation
Hi,
Gotta say, I've never encountered that problem before..except for the odd bit of Actionman clothing,I sould think a carefull washover with a slightly damp cloth wouldn't hurt.. stickers can be quite robust, if the cloth's not too wet they might be o.k.
I use kitchen towels for cleaning old toys myself & a little spot of WD40 to polish plastics often works wonders.
Does the toy have any yellow staining from the nicotine?

I've come across the same problem a couple of times.
With some Action Man clothes that I bought recently, they absolutely hummed!
Stunk the room out.
Being quite a strong anti-smoker, it grates me.
I wasked the AM clothes twice in the washing machine and they still hum.
I'll probably sell them back on as they stink out my room.
With plastic its even harder to remove, I guess, than with clothing, and quite strange that the smell 'sticks' to the plastic.
No advice at all here I'm afraid, but lots of sympathy for your dilemma...

Re: Smokey Situation
i had some tiger force vehicles that smelled a bit of cigarettes, i very gently washed the toys with some nice smelling soapy water, left them to dry washed them again and again untill they smelled much better, the stickers are robust enough if your careful.

Re: Smokey Situation
if you give them a clean up and leave them for a good few months or so the smell eventualy goes, i got a few things back in feb or march and they absolutely stank but i cant smell a thing on them now,
i used to smoke myself but gave up in '99 when my nan died of lung failure from smoking, i cant stand the smell of cigarette smoke now.

I'll second the WD40, I cleaned up a Silent Attack on Monday that way. It also comes up nice and polished as well as smelling of WD40. THe oddur alone might do the trick.

All the clear canopy parts are yellowed, but that could just be through age. WD40 might be the way forward!Thundershot wrote:Hi,

Re: Smokey Situation
I've had the odour priblem with VAM clothes before too - and something worse! I found some VAM clothes at a charity shop a few years back that looked fine in the clear bag (Don't you just hate the way charity shops always put this kind of thing in clear bags from the fruit and veg section of Sainsbury's? I've lost count of how many Ninja Turtles I've aquired this way just to get things that I wanted that were in the same bag!) but once I opened the thing at home, I found that there was some kind of red gunk inside everything that seemed like someone had disected a mouse and stuck the innards inside - and this was found in with the kid's toys section at the shop!paul wrote:slight_overbomber wrote:Was hoping for a bit of advice.
