I really dug Death in South America, as well as the first Storm Shadow story. Stormy's background is a hell of a lot less contrived than the G.I. Joe A Real American hero comic book's backstory.

Claymore was always my favourite. I still lust after a Wolverine after that. Soooooo cool. Atol Z was another cracker and I also like "Tracker"

My best moments were:-

Z-Force-Tracker & Breakers recon & intel gathering mission during 'Desert Strike' that ended with them recovering the Attack Cannon.

SAS-Force-Claymore begining to end and Bloodhound except the 'Attack' sub-story.

AF-Gotta be 'Codename:Scrapyard' followed by 'Op Snakebite' and 'Great Cobra Robbery'.

Thee best stories are Claymore, Bloodhound , Desert Strike and now I'm warming to The Black Major. In the medium of comics its hard to develop a story ii reckon .. nice thing about The Black Major is that is a slowburn (I wonder if Frank Nobel and Ken Owen are John Wagner in disguise if not .. these people should be tracked down as they were very good stories :D you what would be nice here an interview section with the artists and writers .. John Coopers about if i an track him down(and I know he don't like bucket head too much but it would be neat to talk to him, as well as Geoff Senoir (both those guys(as well as many others inspire my work :) )

For me, Claymore. A real up-against it story.

Am I remembering correctly that this story - focussing on a few characters and decent plot - was put out in the lead up to Christmas? Rather than one full of vehicles that would make ideal pressies for a persistent 10 year old lad?

If so, even more kudos to the editors.

I liked the Black Major story a lot, although it seemed awfully similar to many of the 'Only I know she's evil' style of stories that my sister's Bunty and Judy comics were full of. Not that I ever admitted to reading them, of course.

Yeah, the trouble with the flashback stories were the "will he survive?" type cliffhangers. Even as a kid I thought "Well, obviously he's gonna survive because he becomes :major: !"

As for Operation Clyamore, you're absolutely right! The final chapter coincided with the Christmas cover.

[Edit] Sorry, the strip ran for the first two weeks of January as well.
