FANG v HAWK

Post by SteveD »

On sorting thorugh my collection ready to pop them all (or as much as space allows) on display, and got a query re the HAWK or FANG.

I have a FANG that has the usual red missiles etc, and another that is basically a HAWK (i.e yellow bits) that I just assumed to have had the wrong stickers put on by someone as a kid. In looking at the archive, I notice the pics there show a yellow missiled FANG too. Is this another of those Pallitoy "use up the old products, the kids will never notice" situation do you think?

Also, I've decided to focus my boxed collection efforts towards the smaller boxed items (same box size as SAS Silent Attack etc as they fit perfectly on my shelf!). I see in the archive there's a picture of a boxed satellite defence. Has anyone out there got one, or seen them go on Ebay?

The boat patrol is another that I'm suspecting is going to be difficult to come by boxed.

Same for the Stingray - does anyone know if that was ever released boxed - no pics of one in the archive.

So far, I have it that my list should be:-
Shadow Escape armour
SAS Para Attack
SAS Silent Attack
Whirlwind
Attack Cannon
Action Pack
Recondo
CLAW
Cobra Excape Armour
Swamp Skier

Boat PAtrol?
Stingray?
Satellite Defence?

And were the ASP, Hawk & Fang released in these sized boxes too?

Anyone think of any I've missed off?

Only one Boat Patrol box has ever been seen, the one in the archive - it was sold on ebay by Alfreedom - who is is in Spain!

I bought an Action Force FANG as a kid to find it had a yellow HAWK edition gun, rollbar and missiles. I also bought the Night Attack Jeep to find it had rubber wheels not plastic - I think the hubs were black.

No boxed Stingray in the archive? Bugger. I'm sure there must have been one, the archive says it was. "The wave 1 version of the vehicle was supplied Carded, the wave 2 version came in boxed."

I'd like to know as well, please!

I've got a yellow roll caged/missles/cannon FANG and 2 Stingers with the Palitoy rubber wheels. They all came with black hubs. Imho these wheels were much much better than the standard Hasbro plastic ones on their issue and the A.F. Hasbro issued ones in 1987-88.

Yeah I think your right, Palitoy basically used up all their surplus HAWK stocks as Fangs and perhaps in the aims of product improvement/using up surplus chassis from older Panthers they did the same with the Stingers.

The ASP, Hawk and Fang all came in the small sized boxes-see the box sizes for the Silent Attack (either SAS or A.F. version with Recondo). Don't forget the CLAW also came in this size of box too as well as the Action Pack set.

Does this mean you feel a need to get rid of some of the larger non shelf fitting boxed toys?

I'm sensing a Spanish connection with this - it was Alfreedom who sold me two SAS Para's boxed a while ago, and I've never seen any others. I'm also sensing I may therefore struggle to ever get a boat boat patrol. Interesting to see the pics of it though.

I'm not sure if it is my mind palying tricks on me but I can certainly picture a boxed Stingray.

They fit absolutely perfectly into the otherwise wasted space on my display shelf, hence the sudden renewed interest.

Considering it. Although they are presently sitting quite nicely on top of the shelves/cabinets, but a few look a bit messy as they are stacked up (I'm sure I have OCD). They take up so much room. A decision not yet made, but if I do I will pop a list up here first before giving Ebay all of my money.

I suspect there may be one or two duplicates for sale at some stage too - I went off on one at one point and was trying to get every figure with every card variation possible. I'm now questioning whether it is really that important to have each figure with the Commander Mail Away offer, and then again with the Skeletron offer, and then again in French, as I was trying to do at one stage! SAS Commando's are a particular weakness of mine - smooth legs (camo), pocketed legs (camo) etc etc - there's just too many! I think I now "need" a plain black smooth legs and a plain black pocketed legs.

On a rough count up this morning I got to 79 MOC Action Force figures (excluding Battle Gears, Boxed items and larger carded ones). And that's before I start with the other collections.

Next out of the boxes, the loose stuff, much more fun, as you get to play with it whilst setting it up!
