i've got a question for those of you with more answers than me: i have two figures of SKIP. the first has well moulded parts as if from a fresh mould. he is carefully painted with almost hard edges to the black paint on his webbing and DPM. the DPM goes under his arms but stops dead at the body halves join. the red on his beret and scarf is a dull pinky red. the second figures castings are woolly, the black paint is less well defined and the DPM pattern doesn't extend under the arms, the beret and scarf are a bright post office red. .......... were the early run of figures better finished, more carfully painted or has the first figures paint job been touched up. the pattern of the black DPM is totally different between the two, whereas my other Z FORCE figures have consistently positioned black blotches as if sparayed through a standardised mask at the factory.

I've often wondered about this, some of my 2nd generation Shadows look distinctly thick, due to their eyeslit being skewiff. These ones also have slightly better gripping hands, and feel to be made of a more rubbery plastic. Maybe higher demand meant that the finishing process was rushed, or perhaps they're cheaper imported models?

I'm on about the dimwit on the left, I realise now his visor isn't skewiff, it's that his white eyeslots aren't painted with the same menace as Shdaow # 2. I'm sure lefty came second, with a rubbery bazooka. I'd forgotten about the thicker soles.
Got the look of a suicide trooper if you ask me...
While we're on the subject, what is the deal with the black gloved shadow? I'd always thought he was Red Vulture but apparently not.

i only have two shadows in my small collection but they are the same as the photo above. the one with moulded eagle has a far inferior paintjob but does have the most evil eyes. he is also a brighter softer red plastic. were there two or more factories with different capabilities in production. i used to work for a small firm making toy soldiers. as the moulds got older the castings became woolly like the AF figures with the poorer paintjobs. therefore i would say the 2nd generation figures are the woolly poorer painted ones (but this doesn't account for the chest eagle????) has anyone got figures in other teams (SAS Z etc) that show these variations in quality?
could it be that they were produced in different countries, I know there are slight variations of the star wars line as the different licencee holders had different factories over the world, could this be the same?
I remember seeing an earlier thread where it listed slight variations in figures, in particular I remember a few variants of the Space Force Engineer, I have several variants of this one, the most striking being one is made of yellow plastic and one is made of orange.
This could be another question for Newsellers ex-Palitoy contact
