Non team figures and vehicles.

Post by Chopper »

I wqas looking at my Command centre box yesterday and something dawned on me. It doesn't have any faction markings on the box or the centre itself. My conclusion is it isn't really Z force, it was sold as an Action Force base, not a Z force one. None of the cardbacks or boxes I have even have a picture of the command centre on them. So the CC came out in a later wave?

So later wave vehicles would be Shaft, Lance, Dart, Whirlwind, APC and CC for Z? Wolverine and silent attack for SAS? Roboskull, Hyena and escape armour for the Red Shadows? Sealion for Q force? And lastly, Triad for Space force?

It does seem a little coincidental that the every single vehicle made it into series 3 or series 3 overstock. I often wonder why the FLAK didn't make it into series 3, I think this explains that. It also explains why the laser exterminator, MMS, Panther, battle tank and rapid fire (Hasbro repaints) didn't make it into series 3 too. The only anomalies are the Roboskull, Triad and Sealion (still later wave vehicles). Everything else is Hasbro.

Forgive me if this was all worked out before, I can switch off when you blokes start talking about waves. :-)

Oh, and I still maintain the series two commander is factionless too. Like the CC, he isn't Z force.

I'd agree with that, the box had all five team photos on the side, not to mention the flag has all the emblems.

I'm not changing the archives though.

Slacker. You could create an AF page for the CC and commander.

Suppose because the set came with two Z Force characters in the box everyone calls it the Z Force CC. Agree about the Commander too. In my mind he has always been Cdr AF.
When confronted by a difficult problem you can solve it more easily by reducing it to the question. How would the Lone Ranger handle this?

In the archived 1984 Catalogue it shows all the new vehicles you correctly listed but does have the Command Centre under new ZForce.

and in the promos

No mention of the series 2 commander though, so remains factionless and in Stop the Enemy you are invited to play as the Action Force Commander against the Baron etc.

I've always liked the idea of :cmmdr: as FBR Munro-Deighton, from all of the fanclub letters.

Me too, that's why I did the datafile. ;-)

That Chopper letter was exactly the same as the one I got. Wish I still had it. Sigh. The CC references to Z are a bit too sporadic IMO. I think that would be mostly marketing confusion more than anything else.

Lovely letters and :cmmdr: idea

Certainly confusion involved as the sticker sheet has both AF98 and Z-128

However, the DataFile for ZForce Command Centre page 31/42

As we know, the Palitoy' Cobra range does go onto to use it as the Action Force CC

and mentioned in an article

Battle made up their own history so I wouldn't use that as gospel as far as Palitoy are concerned. The sticker is interesting though. I get the feeling it was intended to be an AF base, that would make sense that the HAWK would be right at home on the landing pad.
