The Ukrainians are holding on at the airport, mindful that if it falls the Russians can begin the long planned assault on Mariupol to the south.

Donetsk airport is falling. Last Ukraine troops and volunteer militia under attack in the daytime today and yesterday, surrounded last night and desperate calls this morning to seek a relief convoy, WIA bleeding out and hard to tell who is alive and dead anyway (last holdouts in basements and bunkers and last secure areas of the mainly collapsed terminal, all constantly under fire including artillery), one volunteer militia managed to get in during the afternoon with supplies and to try and evacuate some. Fate unknown. Unsure if they can get out as darkness now falls.

As with the defenders of Luhansk airport, the last cyborgs now win undying fame at the sword's edge.

Most of today was arty every 5 seconds MLRS every 5-7 minutes. Yet a relief convoy got in tonight. Probably during vodka time on the Russian side. Some WIA who survived the onslaught evac'ed.

Everyone remaining behind is already dead. Barring a 'miracle-of-Dunkirk' -type situation, of course.

At 6AM local time the Ukraine army was told to go on the offensive (due to the Minsk peace talks they only 'defend' territory ...) and they got a corridor established to the airport for resupply and medevac of 20 wounded. Seems the army is mobilising elsewhere for counter attacks. Ten other locations came under Russian artillery fire overnight and in the morning.



All kinds of rumours that during the night's heavy fighting one of the Russian GRU irregular commanders 'Motorola' was liquidated at the airport.

Last night there were artillery shells hitting every five to ten seconds and MLRS every five or ten minutes.

Airport temporarily relieved. But government forces in villages on the temporarily reestablished corridor are getting hammered to the south and north, mainly thermobaric weapons, they are calling TV channels to get the news out.

Footage from twelve days ago around the airport near the radar installation, these are ukrainian volunteer militia mainly from the volunteer unit 'Pravy Sector' based in west Ukraine the farthermost, they held the line at Maidan (taking out APCs with molotovs). Loathed by the Russians.

Russian Army launched an offensive north of Luhansk yesterday, two checkpoints taken but then held.

Shelling of Mariupol in the south increased.

Reinforcements have been rushed in from Russia including T80s, some to Luhansk, others to Donetsk, rest heading to Mariupol on the road from Rostov.

24 hour news embargo regarding the fate of Donetsk airport seemingly remains in place. Probably waiting for the President to fly back early from meetings in Switzerland. WIA evacuated in emergency assault but one relief column got lost in heavy fog, then the remains of the airport collapsed on the last defenders and Russians got some prisoners. But strangely no definitive video yet (even filming in a damaged Metro (a chain like Lidl) pretending it's the airport.

But, for the first time, the Ukraine Army spokesman responsible for delivering updates to the media referred to 'Russian Armed Forces' as the opponent. Phrase avoided before.
