Red Shadow (2 Types)
Type 1
Soft shiny plastic, large black triangle on helmet, the eye/eye slit is downward looking and menacing or evil looking. The chest eagle is moulded rather than painted, and overall the paint can be bit slapdash and thinly applied in places. A flat, open, hand, no moulded cuffs, large head.
Immediate ID Features: Round Hands, More Menacing Eye Slit.
Type 2 (The Dufus Shadow)
Matt hard plastic, smaller black triangle on helmet, eyes/eyeslits are painted forward facing and are less menacing. The chest eagle is painted on, not moulded, and overall the white paint is brighter and more accurately applied. A more closed round hand, moulded cuffs, and a smaller head.
Immediate ID Features: Round Hands, Less Menacing Eye Slit.

IGNORE THIS POST, SEE INSTEAD THE ONE BELOW
This one might be a bit controversial. The differences are there, no doubt, but are they really different enough to warrant calling it a 'variant'? I don't know. I have recorded it, but am throwing it out there, into the ether, for discussion.

Re: Red Shadow Variants: The fruits of my project *UPDATED*
Not sure how I missed it, but going over my figures, I checked the differences between the Krakens.
The Type 2 (on the right) is a much harder plastic than the Type 1.
Now, the T1 I had from being a boy, and was the mailaway freebie.
If the harder plastic is a Second Wave feature, then we can assume that the T2 Kraken was the one released on card in the second wave, and that the T1 was the freebie, before the new plastic with the second wave came in.
What is interesting is that as they were freebies together (Kraken and Skeletron) I bet the same set of circumstances would been said for Skeletron if he had been released on card, we would have had a Skeletron Type 2 in hard plastic, but as it stands he is only available in soft plastic.
The new descriptions should read:
Kraken Type 1
Thicker, longer, lines on chest, blurred or slightly messy - less care is taken over them. It is made in a softer plastic. The white paint is of an Inferior type, so thin and less carefully applied. The scales are exactly the same as the Type 2, but are sharper and more deep, suggesting a new mould. The black paint on the leg knife holder is shiny, rather than the matt of Type 2, and the overall green colour of the figure is lighter - the difference is subtle, but is noticeable.
Kraken Type 2
Thinner, shorter, lines on the chest, neatly applied. The plastic is harder, consistent with the Second Wave plastics of Dufus Shadows etc. The white paint is neatly applied, and is of the Superior type, so thicker. The leg knife holder is matt black. The scales are less shark, more rounded - not worn, just have had all the edges taken off. Overall the green colour of the figure is slightly darker.

Funny how we again come back to the plastic issue. Your explanation is persuasive Herr Hopps.Hopper wrote:Not sure how I missed it, but going over my figures, I checked the differences between the Krakens.
