Britains Super Deetail

Hi guys:
I purchased this 1978 vintage Britains Paratrooper from a charity shop during my lunch break on Friday:





I find these Super Detail toy soldiers fascinating as no paint (apart from the base) is involved in their manufacture, it's all done by different colour plastics & a special layered moulding technique.

The coolest aspect of this unique moulding process is the fact that no two figures ever share an 100% identical camouflage pattern:



It's a shame Palitoy didn't employ this kind of mixed plastic effect, instead of paint applications, for camouflage.

I can only imagine how good , or would of looked & it would of massively increased the army building potential.

They do look good. I seem to remember buying a Britains tractor and trailer when I was very young. Wonder what happened to it?

I followed your lead today and found a second hand book store, bought 3 Commando comics. Mate, I think we are getting old but I'm glad you are around here to remind me that its quite OK.

ha, ha. I was looking at commando collected comics today. down from 15 quid to 2.
will pick a couple up next week.

Hi D.T., have you seen 'The Art Of War' books (written by David Roach) yet? They're collections of covers from all of those old Commando style books, some fantastic artwork & very inspirational for diorama photo's.

Here's some of the other troops in the Super Deetail , they may predate Palitoy by around six years yet they have a like 'vibe' about them:

They're exactly the same 4 figures as the Para's (I only have two each of these) simply using different colour combinations..so I suppose you could call them re-paints, another like trait.

I'd like to add some more of these Swoppets infantrymen to my collection, which date well from before my time, wonderfully intricate detailing even their webbing includes a removable entrenchment spade:

Great pics mate. I've got quite a few of these somewhere in the loft. I also have the British, US and German WWII infantry as well. If I find them I'll take a pic.
