Troop building

Post by Celticjoe »

When is it enough. I do not really collect action force but do collect gi joe. Looking at some of your collections on here it looks like some of you have 20+ Red Shads and a quanity of other soldiers. So how do you come by these numbers or can you just not resist the urge to buy more. I am trying to but together small squads of 5 or 6 army builders in my collection. Or is bigger better ?

Five of the 'main' soldier is usually enough for me.
Taking the 25th GI JOE figures as an example, I have five of the regular Cobra troopers and five Vipers. When it comes to 'specialists' (Snow Serpents and the like) I only tend to get two of those.

My old AF army is a lot smaller though. Three Red Shadows (and a Red Vulture) plus two Mutons is all I can muster for the bad guys, while each AF unit has two each of their respective infantry (Two SAS Attack Troopers, two Z-Force Infantry etc.)

Some people go crazy. Over at the Hiss Tank forum I see people proudly displaying their twenty of thirty odd Vipers and such. Hey, it's their money, but I don't se the point of having that many just standing there on the shelf.... I guess it's down to how much space and money you have.

It may be about stroking the male ego, "mine's bigger than yours!" That sort of thing!
When confronted by a difficult problem you can solve it more easily by reducing it to the question. How would the Lone Ranger handle this?

Crimson Rage has hit on another very good point 'space'. I wouldn't be able to do anything other than put 25 shadows in a box, I don't have the room!
Armies look good, I'll agree with that, but variety is nice too!
