Other collections???

Post by SteveD »

Just out of interest - do many other users here collect other 80's toys? (or collections of any kind really)

Action Force is (obviously) my main, but I'm always partial to a few Star Wars here and there, and still have a few bits of the old M.A.S.K stuff in the loft from when I were a lad (I fondly remember my birthday money one year being just enough to get me Rhino and Switchblade - oh happy days!). Still partial to Transformers too - once I can find where they are located in the abyss that is Dad's loft I shall have a bloody good play! And I know my old Action Men (all three of them!) are up there somewhere too. I dream of the day when I might ever have a big enough house to have my old toys on display as a sort of museum to my childhood.

I'd love to have my He-Man collection back from when I was a kid, but I sold the lot for £60 to put towards a BMX back in the day. Keep promising myself I will get a He-Man sat astride Battle Cat for my office at work one day, but there's always something more demanding of my cash. And my clients may think I'm a bit mental!

Guess what I'm saying is Action Force and a few Star Wars are the only one's I've actually sought out and bought new (well, old) of in recent years though, and was just wondering if there is, say, a big cross over with Star Wars, or if people tend to go for one or t'other (I've been exiled in Yorkshire too long - it's starting to infiltrate my typing!) or tend to just stick with the :AFLogo: :enemy: :shadow: :shadow: :shadow: :shadow: :shadow: 's.

Be interested to hear what others tend to go for, as I'm sad like that.

It was star wars for me Steve:

Once I had completed that it just kind of naturally led into AF, pretty much replicating my childhood.

If I had more money & a bigger house, I'd collect it all!

I'd love a full range of He-Man, Transformers, Action Man.

A nice new Skyway BMX.

Basically, subconciously, I just want to relive my childhood and be 10 again!

I forgot about Lego!

Man, I LOVED Lego - the 'normal' stuff like Police and Fire Stations, then stuff with lights etc like the Railway Trains and then Technical Lego! - I just loved all that!

I could very easily be tempted back into all that...

Also Scaletrix! - Brilliant stuff.

I always had a massive thing for Marvel comics too - fantastic 4, spidey, doc octopus, all that stuff - as a kid I just thought it was SO great!

Wish I'd kept EVERYTHING. Shame.

Yeah I sold a ton of vintage Space Lego on ebay a few years back. I regretted it so much I went out and bought all the UFO range!

Wow - Space Lego! I'd forgotten all about that! And the good news is I don't remember ever getting rid of it so it may well still be lurking in the loft!

And Zoids too! Suspect there are a few of them up there still.

I keep nagging my Dad to get his loft tidied and I'm now starting to realise that it's probably mostly my stuff up there! Agreed we'll make a start at it in about a month, so getting pretty excited as to what I might find up there now!

I'm guessing a good few of us here are around early 30's, as those are sounding some very familiar trends!

Paul - that collection is awesome. I started off trying to go for StarWars and AF at the same time a few years back. Spent a fortune, realised that AF was already off to a headstart as I had the childhood collection, so Star Wars went on the back burner. Never had a lot of SW as a kid, and guess I was trying to fill a gap. Trying desperately not to get back into it, but seeing Jens vinyl jawa has re-ignited a bit of an itch, and when it comes to auction suspect I may not be able to help myself!

When I was a kid it was Star Wars, Action Man, Action Force, MOTU, Buck Rogers, AD & D and Airfix 1:32 Soldiers alll the way with some Transformers, Clash of the Titans and Action Jacks throw in!

Selected parts of my Action Force collection and my Airfix 1:32 soldiers were all that survived the mass giveaway instigated by my Mum and I've been rebuilding my Action Force collection ever since. I've picked up a MOC Buck Rogers Tiger Man and MOC AD & D Hawkler along the way but I just can't face the insurmountable task of rebuilding my Star Wars collection from scratch!

However, I recently found in my parents loft after a very brief look all my Airfix soldiers still boxed, an empty Z-Force Base Box and an empty SW Empire Strikes Back AT-AT Box, goodness knows what else could be up there! The AT-AT box will probably go on eBay at some point, does anyone have any idea how much it could be worth?

Out of all the things I lost it's my Star Wars and Action Men I regret the most.

Not that I'm deeply emotionally scarred or anything, but I still dsitinctly remember the conversation about the sale of my He-Man collection to this day:

"£60 is a lot of money, and you could put it towards that bike you want" (translation:- "I won't have to get you the bike for Xmas, and I'll get the living room floor back.").

In fairness it was a fantastic bike, and whilst I got rid of that decades ago the scars from my "ditch leaping" escapades remain as noticeable as ever!

Got a carded Whiplash a while back to try to restart collection, but I realised it was going to cost a fortune as US seem to go mad for MOTU, so I gave up and put it away.

My 80's nostalgia did reach a peak a few years back when I bought a white Sierra Cosworth just like the one I had a poster of on my wall in 1988 though. It'd been in a barn for 15 years, but is just about ready for the road now. Can't wait!!!!!

Good topic. When i was younger Star Wars, matchbox cars and AF were my main toys, with Lego and Playmobil when i was even younger. I also had some Brittains toy soldiers.
Though i watched He-Man i never really got into the toys, same with transformers.
As with most people, the majority of my star wars and Playmobil did not survive 'mums purge' and got sold at a car boot sale. I did manage to keep all my action force toys though aswell as my Battle Action Force, Roy of the Rovers comics and one lone tie fighter pilot.

I got back into collecting when i bought some revenge of the sith figures for my nephews birthday and though about buying some modern figures myself to keep unopened for the future. Unfortunately for my wallet things kind of spiralled from there and ended up buying all the new modern Star Wars figures.

Once i was onto ebay there was no going back and moving onto AF ws a natural progression, especially since i saw a MOC ripcord on the bay and i thought that all MOC figures would be that cheap and easy to find and buy!

I have moved onto collecting the Takara series as think the cards on these figures look awesome and also moved onto vintage POTF star wars, though this is proving a costly exercise! I also picked up some of my favourite matchbox cars from when i was younger mint and boxed.
