Re:bloodforthebaron.com
We have recently become aware that your website, bloodforthebaron.com, was causing performance problems on the shared webserver on which it was hosted. Our monitoring system detected a resource problem on the server and we are confident that that your site has been contributing to this issue. More details as to the nature of the problem will be found below.
As a result of this problem we have acted to move your website to our probation servers, these servers provide a separate hosting environment that we maintain specifically to allow our customers to diagnose and resolve performance issues with their sites. This action on our part gives you the opportunity to alter the site as required so that we can then consider moving it back to the standard hosting environment without affecting the performance of the other hosted sites.
While your site is hosted on our probation servers you are likely to experience performance below the levels that we normally provide to our shared hosting customers.
The move has meant that the IP address associated with your website has now changed to 213.171.218.158.
The problem is:
There were 160 win32 pipes left open in the application pool of the server this site was hosted on and on checking a sufficient random selection, they were all owned by this domain.
This would tend to indicate a script is opening connections without closing them.
These are generated by the way Windows handles piping and often people find the simplest solution is to move to a Linux server for hosting, if they are not reliant on Windows specific technologies for their site.
Beyond the description of the symptoms given above we are unable to offer assistance in diagnosis or resolution of the problem. We cannot advise you on how your site should be changed to resolve the problem. If we have been able to identify a particular script responsible for the problem then this information has been included in the notes above. If there is no indication of a particular script that we believe is causing the problem then you should assume that we have not been able to identify one. We will not take any further action to diagnose this problem.
While we recognise that this move may be inconvenient for you we would like to remind you that, when you opened your StreamlineNet account, you agreed to be bound by our terms of service and to be responsible for the domains in your account. We feel that we have fulfilled our responsibility to you as a customer by providing this alternate hosting environment and giving you the opportunity to resolve the problem.
We regret that we cannot allow your site to remain on the probation server for longer than 5 days. To prevent the suspension of your site you need to contact us within 5 days and tell us what steps you have taken to resolve the problem. If we do not hear from you within 5 days of the date of this email we will act to suspend your website and associated services including email. This step is not reversible and so it is imperative that you act quickly if you wish to continue to host your website with StreamlineNet.
Should you require us to remove any unacceptable data and related services in order to resolve this problem we will require your explicit authorisation to do so
On receipt of your reply, we will assess the situation again with the aim of moving your website back to the shared environment.
Once we are confident that the problem has been resolved we will move your website back to the shared hosting environment. Any further performance issues caused by your website will result in the site being permanently disabled and so we strongly advise that, in future, you actively monitor the resources used by the domains that you host with us.
Kind regards,
Streamline.Net The home of good value web hosting

Re: HELP!
If somebody wants to suspend you, then at least they should learn how to write a clear email. This is absolute bollocks!
A shared webserver is like sharing a building with other people. Rule number one in that building is that all inhabitants close the front door at all times. If somebody leaves the front door open, other people's appartments are more vulnerable to for instance burglary. In a shared environment a few rules are needed.
Bloodforthebaron is leaving the door (win32pipes) open because of f**k knows. Because of f**k knows other websites perform less adequate or are more vulnerable. To avoid problems with other customers, bftb is being transferred.
Good luck in resolving this strange matter. If all fails, just bomb the f**ckers.
Bandwith for the Baron!

- Remember we got hacked a while ago? Maybe there are errors in the software of this message board. On the other hand, more forums run on this software.
- Maybe the black&red skin is causing problems? After all it is a script.
- Maybe the board is configured wrongly? Remember that Paul Gales is constantly online even if he is not. It would explain the pipes that are being left open.

Re: HELP!
Thanks Jaye, that's a language I can understand.
The forum was replaced by PHPBB3 in the spring, I will post on their forum regarding the skin.
I've been informed that moving everything to a Linux server will take care of the problem. I have no idea what that means either, or if it will cause other problems - would be a f*cksight easier if they just told me what the problem was so I could fix it by hand.
I don't appreciate them waving the "you signed up for our terms and conditions" bit before I'd even responded.

Re: HELP!
Requested help over at the PHPBB board:

This guy has the same problem: http://www.forum.scottishcrofting.co.uk/phpBB3/ he is clearly not using the acidtechred custom skin.
Streamline.net have offered to transfer me to a Linux server free of charge, which should bypass the issue, but they also inform me that it is case sensitive regarding HTML. As there are hundreds of homemade thumbnail galleries it may well prove to be disastrous.

Solution?....
Shad Suicide Squad hits Streamline.Net
"BLOOD FOR THE BARON !!!!"
I hope all is resolved and we don't lose the website !
I wish I could help but I don't know anything about how computers and the internet work.
The probationary server move would probably explain why I haven't been receiving e-mail notification of new private messages or new posts for the last couple of days.

Re: HELP!
Nope, that was me trying to move the site onto a Linux server - it took a while for the transition to complete. It took care of the problem but killed all of the links in the toy and comic section, that's thousands of HTML links that need to be converted to case sensitive script ie a link to index.html will no longer work for a file named Index.html
f*ck that. I moved the site back to the WIndows server this morning, which again took a whie for transitrion. I do apologise for the inconvenience.
I'm getting pretty pissed off with this, Streamlinenet won't tell me what the actual problem, or what they want me to do about it, but that I had better do it ASAP or they'll kill my site. I don't get why my site can be affecting other sites when I am paying them for unlimited webspace and bandwidth.

When confronted by a difficult problem you can solve it more easily by reducing it to the question. How would the Lone Ranger handle this?
