Vehicle restoration experiments

First off, I had a bottle of this lying around -

and a Sgt Slammer Triple T tank which was in good condition but but had a lot of light scratches on it's flat surfaces, mainly the front panel. A couple of treatments and it came up a treat and added that 'new' shine. It probably wouldn't be much use against really deep gouges but for light scratches it really does work a treat and takes them right out. I also tried it on a spare canopy and it took out some really nasty scuffs. I reckon an additional coat of clear coat polish could really make canopies 'ping' (so that's one to try later).

Next up, I had vague recollections of someone mentioning denture tablets for vintage Star Wars figures. Now, I had already given the TTT a good scrub with warm soapy water but there was still visible crud in the really small mould details like grills etc. I filled up a plastic bowl with warm water and popped in a handful of denture tablets and popped it in to soak. After a few minutes there was a noticable result so I left it in for an hour or so (giving it the odd swish round every now and again) and it really cleaned all the dried in crud that soap and water just couldn't reach, and generally just brightened the whole thing up - result!

I hope this proves useful to some of you, and I will be sure to post again with the findings from any more of my 'experiments'. :-D

I've got a slightly grubby V1 Ace lying around somewhere, so I'll think I'll try the denture tablets trick on him. If I could just bloody find him ...

Spooky I'm just experimenting with some very yellowed AT-ST parts I got the other day and some active burst Steradent tablets, seems to be working so far :)

I think I'll give the Steradent a go next - they may be more effective (ie stronger) than the cheapo Asda ones I'm using. I have a V1 Ace soaking in a bowl at the moment. May leave him overnight see what happens.

Peroxide works a treat for whitening. Just did a VAM Garrand, came up minty fresh.
