possibly stumbled upon a rare variant here so if anybody has any knowledge of what this rifle came with or even if you have one please post here along with all known carded and loose figures with and without the muzzle!

Most do, including MOC.

Both my MOC and mint loose come without the muzzle.

This has cropped up a few times over the years with no satisfactory answer. To my knowledge there are no carded examples.

A lot of GI Joe accesories were released in weapons packs, most if not all were different colours to the originals.

also some of the later Joe releases has multi coloured accessorie ..... just a thought ?

I can say it's not an accessory pack version, or one released in the US. The only packs that have red accessories are #3 in 85 and #4 in 86, but there wasn't any AK molded in red. Also after the last time it was released in 89 with the Python Patrol Trooper, the AK wasn't used again in the US.

If it isn't something from Europe, maybe it's something from Funskool. I know that they released many acessories in all types of colors. It could be some off brand line that got ahold of the mold too, or someone's custom too. I can say this for sure though is it's not a US version.

did anyone ever find another ak with muzzle attached

I would put money on that being a recast, repro or from another manufacturer. When you go large on the pic you can see how rough it is compared to the fairly clean lines of the one issued with . On that evidence I would say that unless there are ones with muzzles as clean as the ones without then they are not Palitoy.

I rechecked my stock of random weapons and none had the muzzle so i guess it must be an off brand or a recast like you said.
