Flirting with Treason - Figures

Which :af: or :cobra: figures and/or characters, if any, would have fitted into the :AFLogo: :enemy: universe?

After the long twilight of :AFLogo: I used to try and figure out who could fit in to an additional :AFLogo: wave. Could a wave 4 have reinforced :enemy: and :AFLogo: ranks one last time? Started thinking about it again the other day after re-reading a few more :af: :cobra: BAF strips and some of the posts here, not least about :baronness: :originalaf: and viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3254

:af:

Assuming one discounted the :scarlett: :afstalker: :tripwire: :gungho: :moondancer2:  figures to avoid 'duplication', who's left to add in?

:torpedo: Maybe not :qforce:, but :sas: with :barracuda: for sabotage missions. There was a great BAF story about him that would also have worked perfectly in the :shadow: :shadow: :shadow: era.

:ripcord: HALO Assault for :zforce: ?

But what about the others? :airborne: Slightly too American? :snowjob: Too kitchy for a :zforce: Arctic Assault? Maybe :roadblock: could have worked in :zforce: not least for obvious APC reasons; :flash: in :zforce: or :space: ?

But what about :mutt: :junkyard: :doc2: :recondo: :blowtorch:  :cutter: :dolphin2: :ace: :deepsix: :flagg:? :ace: and his Skystriker could have worked in :zforce:; maybe :cutter: too. Or are we at the point where :AFLogo: went to :af: via sensitive crimes with Playmobil via a Hasbro/CPG Products' factory in Taiwan?

:cobra:

Again, arbitarily discounting :cofficer: :destro: :cobracommander: as duplicate figures ...

:firefly: :baroness: :copper: :redwolf2: could have ably worked in the :enemy: 's global conspiracy, adding a bit of backbone to :enemy:'s always overstretched management team, and meeting a few of their amphibious and aerospace challenges on top of unleashing additional mayhem. Why should :AFLogo: have the skillset advantage when :baron: is an evil genius with plenty of gold hidden in Switzerland and Panama and a lot of "investments" in Colombia?

But is :scrapiron: what :baron: dreamed up to to nix :steeler: and his goddess?
Would Red :storm: have been too similar to :laser: ?
Was :zartan: the missing link between :kraken: and :jackal: ?
Or have Playmobil issues already raised their gnomically-botoxed faces towards the heavens?

And what about :hyena: (too Star Wars-esque) :bludd: (not a patch on :major: and Australian to boot) and the :najeep: :ctrooper: 'duplicates'? Too close to :hunter: for comfort?

One day (at this rate 2020) I'll do some customs and filecards for those who make the cut. Maybe I'll try and figure out how to do a poll too.

:deepsix: is :qforce: for sure, I'm a bit disappointed Palitoy didn't use him for :qforce: (or even :space:) as with a yellow & blue repaint the figure could of looked very good indeed.

Cutter would have been Q Force as well but I am not sure about the WHALE being in Q Force colours. Ton Up I could see in Z Force with Mutt & Junkyard.

:firefly: would of made a good :sas:

Are we talking figures as "released" or "would of made cool :AFLogo: if re-paints"?
After all :hunter: was a repainted :cofficer: & a :sas: (good guy) not :enemy: (bad guy)

This is something else I was wondering about. Maybe either / or, partly cos it's easy-ish to fuse the two.

:ripcord: :torpedo: :roadblock: :baroness: :redwolf2: just need :zforce: :sas: :enemy: insignia; :copper: :storm: would need to be repainted; maybe black and red kit for :scrapiron: losing the blue. But what to do with :firefly: if :enemy: ?
Thundershot wrote::firefly: would of made a good :sas:
Always preferred him as an :enemy: sab. But maybe too conventional: after all, :baron: has the Commando from hell :major: and the majestically loopy :laser: as minions to name but two. I just don't see :sas: dressing up in kit that falls somewhere between the two OTT camps of full-on Spetsnaz or SEALs.

:hyena: and :redwolf2: could easily be :enemy: and :tripwire: , :mutt: and :roadblock: could be :zforce:

The other colour schemes don't really lend themselves I think. Firefly is an awesome Cobra figure and like Stormie, shouldn't be messed with ;-)

Yeah :qforce: is too yellow for :cutter: (esp with all its recently acquired connotations). But what about :qforce: Sealion treatment? Thinking :zforce: otherwise.

:mutt: :junkyard: in :zforce: is still a bridge too far for me tho', and,, I still get palpitations thinking about the green Wolverine vs :sas: version.

i was thinking about this meself the other day.

i came up with:

Firefly as a v2 of Quickfire, repainted to SAS colours
Torpedo as a V2 of Barracuda
Breaker (US) as a v2 of Breaker (AF)
US Doc as a v2 of UK Doc (repainted as white bloke)
Ace as a V2 of Hot Jets
Deep Six as a V2 of Leviathan
Crimson Guard as a Shad officer
Viper as v2 of the Shads
Bludd as a V2 of Black Major after he's been badly injured in a battle.
Baroness as a Shad spy
Lady Jaye as a Z troop
Footloose, Grunt and Hit&Run as Z troops.
Tripwire as a V2 of Scout
Flash and Sci-Fi as Space Force. either as are, in new colours or as V2 of Hawkwind and Blast Off
Recondo as Z troop
Snow Job as SAS arctic ops
Ripcord as a V2 of Sparrowhawk in SAS colours
Wet Suit as a Q diver or V2 of Shark
BAT as mk II Muton
Flint as V2 of Skip
Blowtorch as a Shad flamer troop in red and black
Airborne as a Z troop
Duke as a Z troop
V2 Hawk as a V2 of The Commander
Airtight as a Space Force bloke
Alpine as a Z mountaineer
Snake Eyes V2 as an SAS troop
Wild Weasal as a V2 of Red Wolf (duh)
Scrap Iron as a Shad anti-tank bloke.
Eel as Shad frogman
Snow Serpent as Shad polar ops.

can't remember who i thought should be a V2 of Eagle, although I know i did come up with someone...

On which note that Flying Submarine thing looks a bit like the :qforce: force experiment Mr. "Hello Dave" Tree uncovered (if you put some beer goggles on).

But Deep Six himself still a bit too Buzz Lightyear for :qforce: , nichts?

Yeah :storm: is in a Cobber league of his own. Maybe he'd be a handy Hyena-stig, maybe he'd get in the odd drunken shuriken group-hug with :laser: But basically he is :cobra: through and through.

As an old-fashioned merc hired by :baron: occasionally, :firefly: could remain himself. The Boba Fett of the :af: :cobra: universe. And a bit of diversion in the :AFLogo: :enemy: Operation Stubborn is a solid story after all.
