My lack of painting skills...

I have a bunch of ideas for customizing vehicles and then eventually using them for dios but alas I lack any painting skills!

So I was wondering, do you guys ever send vehicles to eachother and get them customized?

For instance I have a Cobra H.I.S.S. IV from 2002 I'd like to give a black and red overhaul to and a Conquest X-30 that I'd like to turn into something that was hijacked by The Dreadnoks and looked exactly like it was painted by them (scrappily) for Dreadnok Airways :D

I use spray paints for vehicles, they really couldn't be any more straightforward!

Thanks for the advice!

I saw your thread on paints so I think I'll go the way of Games Workshop sprays from eGay perhaps...but what brand would you recommend in the way of lacquer?

I've only tried using Plastikote myself. I would use GW lacquer with GW paints, I guess.

be careful with lacquer as different types on different paints can cause havoc...

Painting takes a lot of practice mine got better from buying loads of armies and gangs etc from Games Workshop but I have seen better quality painters than myself.

If I'm gonna do this I definately need to practice with other stuff first.

Last thing I wanna do is f*ck up my H.I.S.S. & Conquest X-30! I saw a ad through eGay for a painting service by these Games Workshop dudes...sadly they didn't want to take up the challenge of my vehicles :(

Games Workshop only like their own products D the best thing is take your time and try to have an idea of what you want to achieve. Also cover areas you don't want to spray if you do use spray cans with taped down paper or something appropriate for that area. I hand painted my canopied vehicles look at my custom section under Action Force.

I had a dabble with Hycote acrylic car paints and they turned out OK. Lots of paint for a third of the price too :)
I tend to use masking tape for the areas I wan`t to seperate,

Worked quite well on the Skystriker, sprayed a base coat and put the tape on, shaped the camo patterns from the tape with a craft knife and sprayed the other colour on, tape off and done.

Wife found it enjoyable taking the tape off, bit like peeling suburnt skin off (women have an obsession with that :-? ) so I managed to get her involved too :-D

always a wise move; involving the wife.
