Wolverine / Weapon X question

Hidey-ho,
Being a bit of a DC fan, I'm not always up-to-speed on my Marvel knowledge. However, I did used to read Alpha Flight when I was a kid, and in that comic, Wolverine was called Weapon X. I recently saw a Weapon X figure on ebay which I thought looked pretty cool, (sort of like Dee Snider from Twisted Sister!

), so I decided to treat myself.
He's an alternate universe version called Age Of Apocalypse Weapon X... and he only has one hand. The other hand has been replaced with a sort of metal spikey thing.
So the question (for anyone familiar with this Marvel Apocalypse business) is... how come his hand didn't grow back?
Cheers!

Age of Apocalypse takes place in an alternate timeline in which Xavier was assassinated in the past by his son who was actually intending to kill Magneto, but Charles saved him. As a consequence, Magneto leads the X-Men, Apocalypse and his servants rule the US and among other things, James Howlett, aka Wolverine, aka Weapon X, has one hand.

intro credits are really good, for the 1st 10/20 minutes i was fooled into thinking it would be good!
dont get me started on deadpool, also wolverines hidden past is very tame, he was always a nice guy which just loses the whole point!

REMEMBER: Ross's review is one man's opinion. Opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one.
i will see the movie and make my own judgements, thanks.
