StormShadow number 2 restored RITDYE pros and cons !!

.
ok here is the second of my Storm Shadow restorations, this time using Ritdye instead of paint !

I did have a nightmare with this one, I left the parts in a little too long and as a result the torso warped a bit.

When I tried to straighten it using boiling water and "Pressure" the back snapped in two places !! and had to be glued.

anyway this is what I have accomplished so far ( still needs a bit of a touch up and a few accessories )

Stage one ( The Guinea pig ! ) ( Thanks for the second time to Goldenpuma for these parts)

They grey paint flakes were removed before dying

Stage two ( the vat of boiling Ritdye consumes poor stormy )

Stage three ( one hour later )

Stage four ( the aftermath )

Stage five ( assembly and a little touching up )

And yes i know his face is red !!!!!! but it makes him look evil ?

and hey ! no paintwear at the joints !

this process does make bodyparts more brittle and is also time consuming !

Looks good and better than i thought it would - by that i mean the dye coverage and consistency. Your paintwork is fab too. I wonder if the torso issue would be solved by keeping it screwed together during boiling? Another great success

It actually looks very good! I'm quite glad that I haven't got into jointed figures yet apart from :laser: :jackal: The paintwear isn't such a problem on non articulated figures.
Incidentaly these look so much better than the 25th figures too.

I kept the 2 thigh halves loosly screwed together during boiling because I was concerned the tiny knee pins would warp. I suppose I should have done the same with the torso !

I will know for next time ...... if there is a next time .......

Iit's interesting how the grey paint on his legs doesn't show. Did it boil off, maybe?

Goldenpuma sent me that first pic of the body parts before he sent me them.
since that pic was taken they have had the grey paint flakes removed so the parts were clean before they went in the dye.
I was just being lazy and should probably have taken another (before) pic.

I loved the Black Ninja and I love this red fella too.

These are going to ROCK Andy!

And all from knackered old junk as well....

Great Job.

Cheers Paul, I still have a couple of dodgy Storm shadow figures, so my ninja "army" is still work in progress.

The dye was "scarlet" I think this guy turned out slightly darker than anticipated, probably due to being left in too long.

He looks lighter in the last pic due to the camera flash .... I think.

He looks darker in the loose bits picture.

At least he didn't come out pink!
