Little cataloging help please.

OK, doing pretty well at the 1989 list so far.... BUT. A couple of discrepancies. The Tiger fly? Who was the pilot that it was bundled with? The Catalogue lists Wild Bill, which would have to have be V1, however Yo Joe lists Tiger Force Recondo as the Pilot. Was the AF Tigerfly bundled with TF Recondo or Wild Bill? Recondo is shown on the Tiger paw, and Dusty on the Tiger Shark.

One figure I can't ID.

This feller's got me buggered. Either that or I'm going cross-eyed.

I have listed all the MAF era AF figures, 87-88-89. The only other thing I'm having trouble with is the motorised vehicles and battle packs from Late 88-89.

Cheers

In the UK/EU they used the Recondo V1 molds and named him Wild Bill, some clever devil at Hasbro EU/UK may have decided continuity was the order of the day as Wild Bill was the pilot of the original Dragonfly.....

In the US/Canada they used the same Recondo V1 molds and just called him Recondo. I expect the original molds of Wild Bill weren't to hand? Perhaps they were at the Funskool Plant in India by that time?

The pic of the mystery figure.....? Thats Blocker from the G.I.JOE Battle Force: 2000 range. I recognise that catalogue scan as its from the early 1990s UK/EU catalogue range of their G.I.JOE-THE ACTION FORCE or by the mid 90s G.I.JOE range once the A.F. name had been phased out altogether.

Incidentally, here in the UK there was never any mention of BF:2000 as a team. We had all the figures and I think all the accompanying vehicles but they were simply G.I.JOE items. My fae BF2000 figures got to be DODGER, he reminds me of a Colonial Marine from Aliens, but I don't like that film, much prefer the original and the best, bit like A.F. then....lol.

Hope that helps. :blastoff:

Thanks mate, that's about it now. All the AF figures are now accounted for. 1989 was the last year that AF was used in the name, after that it was just GI Joe :( That's where I've stopped - for now. I'll do Euro/UK Joe variants at some point but I really don't have the knowledge as we didn't get any of them down under and nobody here would have a clue. Have to rely on the BFTB for that.

Was the original Dragonfly with a standard Recondo V1 too? Or just the Tiger Fly variant? Was Recondo the Tiger Force variant with the Tiger Fly too? The pic of Recondo in that catalogue shows him on the Tiger Paw.This is a bit on the interesting side for the data files, as Wild Bill is listed as being a Pom. From Hull, iirc. Never made sense.

Gotta agree re: Alien too. The first was MUCH better. Second one was a B-grade action flick in space. Commando's? My arse.

Thanks

No. Original Dragonfly in the USA/Canada and UK/EU came with V1 Wild Bill (see yojoe.com for pics).

Recondo was packed with the Tigerfly in the US/EU/UK but as known here Wild Bill. The Recondo seen on the Tiger Paw, if its not in a blue hat is a prototype used by Hasbro that was never made. I've seen a prototype Torpedo piloting the Tiger Force version of the Moccassin in the G.I.JOE Catalogue of the time....look closely and you'll see him.

Thanks so much Mate, thats helped heaps. I assume that the Recondo was the same as the US one? I.e. from the original mould?

Frik on a stick. Just toodled over to Yo Joe. Its even more confusing. So the Tiger Fly was exactly the same as the US version, except some dope called Recondo, Wild Bill? OK, got it.

From Yo Joe. http://www.yojoe.com/action/88/recondo2.shtml

I'll check out Torpedo, thanks.

International Variants:

In the United Kingdom and Europe, the same Recondo figure was released under the name Wild Bill.

Goodo, thats 99.9% done now. Cheers

Just a small bump with a new question. The Late 88 catalogue. Were the figures/vehicles boxed as The Action Force or GI Joe: The Action Force? I'm assuming the former.

From memory still Action Force, I think it was around late 1989/ 1990 they changed to GI Joe The Action Force as it was after I stopped collecting them, but in 88 I was still defo buying Action Force.

It's not visual proof, but hope it helps :)

Dave.

Mark,

These brochures that I scanned in before show:

'Action Force' up to end of 1987.

'Action Force: International Heroes' throughout 1988

'GI Joe: The Action Force' - 1989 range

1990 and onwards - full name change to just 'GI JOE'

I've been using them pretty heavily, thanks. I just don't trust the catalogues that much. By this time, mind you, it was all Hasbro so cockups were probably less likely.
