Cheap GI Joe DVDs in the UK, (two for under a fiver!).

I imagine that GI Joe DVDs are fairly commonplace in America, but
I'd not noticed any over here until lately. There were TWO in my local Woolworth's;
"GI Joe The Movie"... for A POUND (bargain!)
And "Boys Stuff"... for £3 (shouldn't that be "Boys
' Stuff"?)
both by a company called Metrodome. "Boys Stuff" includes Transformers, Yvon of the Yukon, The Cramp Twins, and Super Duper Sumos, too.
Two discs for under a fiver. "Bargeeno", as we used to say!
Anyway, its quite a bit different from Battle Action Force, where evil terrorists were shot dead by guns that fired bullets. One of these DVDs shows evil reptile-men being stunned by zap-guns. I guess Battle Action Force, although fanciful, was more realistic. But that doesn't stop both DVDs from being a pair of rip-roaring adventures! Recommended.

I remember being really excited by the prospect of action force videos when I first saw them advertised in the marvel UK AF comic, this would probably be around 1989...
I think the first one had 'sink the montana' and a a couple of other GI Joe cartoon episodes. Action force was badly dubbed over any reference to gi joe and "full force!" over "yo joe!". I was disappointed at the time, especially with the laser zapping! I was probably a bit to old for them though.
I remember kind of liking 'pyramids of darkness', which was probably the second video and 'arise serpentor arise', but the cobra-la stuff and CC being turned into a snake in the movie, what bloomin blooper where they thinking!!

Having grown up with Transformers also, I can tell you that Cobra Commander wound up as his old self once more in the episode "Only Human" which came in the TF's third series... which some of you may recall was set in the futuristic era of 2006...

I think this may be the same deal I found here in Ireland, where I got GI Joe the movie for €2.50! I had actually never seen it before, but wish I had gotten the Action Force version, simply because "Full force" is much cooler than "Yo Joe" as a catchphrase!
Really enjoyed it I must say. Look around while ye can, I'm sure there will be full priced versions out soon enough to tie in with the upcoming movie!

For that price . . . No, not common at all. While the DVD's are more readily available in the States, they are RARELY cheap.
G.I. Joe in general was NEVER realistic. But the cartoon was far less so than the comic, and the Movie was the absolute low point. Those "evil reptile-men" are Cobra-La, and the Movie is their ONLY appearance outside of the toys. They were not embraced by kids in 1987.
But I might point out . . .

Yeah, that's kind of what I meant; more easily available in The States, not necessarily cheaper.
As for

,

,

, as has been pointed out by Jamar and The Baron, all three (along with my beloved

) were invented purely to target the Star Wars generation, and in
my case they worked
perfectly
. But even so, when we saw a
Red Shad' get
slotted in
Battle Action Force... we knew he'd stay dead! Ha ha! No stun-guns allowed.

Hiya, Spudz!
I managed to get a VHS of the Action Force version off ebay

. It's much the same, except it has the mismatched voice overdubs.... However, it
does have a much better (albeit lyric-less) theme tune. Just my opinion.
Having said that, I miss all of the original AF characters, such as

and

, none of whom appear because they weren't GI Joes, of course.
So..., anyone else spotted any Joe DVDs over here?

I found this for £1.49 in oxfam this weekend! Watched it for the first time in 20 years last night, arrrrrgggghhh!!!! It's awful!!!
Shipwreck & Snake-eyes wander through a cobra base with the parrot and wolf in tow! They end up on stage in a club dancing (snake's got some badass breakdancing moves on the go) in an effort to avoid/delay capture...
There's even fluffy cute monster things that turn into savage beasts (ala gremlins) on board g.i.-ahem-Action Force's space station...
giant cobra water robots, cobra comander's voice changing just before he refers to action force, lasers, shipwreck and his bloody parrot, arrrrggggghhhhh!!!!
I have decided that the cartoons where pants!
It was 1987 when it came out in the UK (so I was 12 and at the time and as I've said before probably 'too old').
I can't help it though, just like the audio stories that are generally terrible, I'm drawn to these animations like a moth to a flame... next video I see for less than £2 I will probably buy!

I've seen that one! The wolf knows how to operate one of those pump-handled railway trolley-things!
Yes, despite

,
BATTLE ACTION FORCE was more realistic.
Anyone else picked up any bargains?

PS. I just remembered how Snake Eyes was such a badass in
Battle Action Force, yet in the cartoon... he infilitrated the enemy by disguising himself as Boy George!
See you in a week!
Have fun!

Ah, the GI JOE cartoon. I love it to bits yet acknowledge it was a bit... tatty (in a good way). Rather makes me laugh when I see some Joe fans complaining about changes made for next years live-action movie yet in the next breath embracing the cartoon, which couldn't have been more different to the comic if it tried.
I still have my "World's Without End" VHS tape from Tempo tucked away somewhere, along with my "Arrival From Cybertron" Transformers tape. Thank heavens for region free DVD players though, as I have the Rhino box sets of Joe seasons 1 and 2 (well, half of season 2 anyway!) as well as the animated (doh.. what a 'masterpiece') movie.
But imagine a cartoon styled after the IPC AF stories... Ah, one can dream.
