Russian SF with arty launched a major attack on Donetsk airport yesterday. Ukrainians lost 2 KIA and 20 WIA very quickly and more later.

The Russians took the old terminal, so Ukraine only holds the remains of the new one now. But Russian losses are high (27 SF and 30 others) and a badged Russian general (Alexander Lentsov) had to have a sit down with a Ukrainian counterpart to sort out a local ceasefire today, mainly so the Russians can get their dead and send them back across the border as 'Cargo 200' so their mothers get one of the all new 'died on exercise near the Ukrainian border' death certificates for the mantelpiece.

Airport remains days before the onslaught:

Norwegian F16 bounced by a MiG-31 at 24500 feet somewhere off Bodø
Vid released 30 Nov, date filmed unconfirmed.

Pilot is talking to a chase plane nearby.
:chopper: :panic: :headless: :catfight: :punch: :screwy:

A few weeks ago Su34 Fullback also went round Norway's hump as close as possible to national air space, all rather too casual.

Sounds about right these days, political spectrum is all over the place, symptom of post-industrial Harry Potterism of the second and third orders. And various institutions are even worse than that ...

Meantime, seems a senior/experienced/important Russian General (presumably Colonel-General i.e. Colonel) got rubbed out in the Sunday airport assault - hence negotiations by another active service RF general for a ceasefire to recover the bodies. Unclear what kind of unit/s or combination of regular SF units were involved in the assault.

Ceasefire last night didn't even get started.

Regular army from North Caucasus now sitting tight in Donetsk centre. Still badged as 135 Motor Rifle Regiment and ancillary units so 58th Army. Same units who went into Georgia on day 2 and 3 after the airborne VDV units back in 2008.
