BFTB - Wet Paint
Re: BFTB - Wet Paint
A lot of times my browser completely locks/hangs during loading of pages. This is my 8th attempt in posting this message. I am still busy figuring out what code causes this.
Re: BFTB - Wet Paint
You do seem to be in a minority, Jaye. Which browser are you using, please?
Re: BFTB - Wet Paint
On my PC at home I share Jayes problem - sometimes when i Hit "reply" or "respond to Pm" it just freezes up, and takes an age to come through to the typey screen. It's not a new phenomenum - it was the same under the old Forum, but seems a little worse now? I'm with BT internet at home, and the Browser is just the one that comes with that (possibly Explorer?).

Re: BFTB - Wet Paint
It appears to be an IE7 problem.
However, the snow script is causing delay as well. Every time a page is loaded, the script is reloaded. For best performance the script should run permanently, regardless of what page is being displayed. How to make that work? You must run the entire site within a separate page. That takes a lot of work. Since the snow is only here for the holiday season, just leave it as it is.
X-mas is a pain in the ass anyway, so I can deal with this!

Re: BFTB - Wet Paint
But the snow only went up last night - you were having problems before then.
I use Firefox, I'll try browsing with IE and see if I have the same problem.
Steve, I get the impression that if I ask for technical specs you'll tell me it came in a box?

Now I'm offended!!! I was going to be very specific and say "a big box". If it helps it was black and white, and printed on shiny cardboard? The Baron wrote: Steve, I get the impression that if I ask for technical specs you'll tell me it came in a box?
I'm pretty sure I run IE at home, but I will check, and if I do I will prod it with a big stick from a safe distance to see if that helps.

Re: BFTB - Wet Paint
Afraid not. Are you sure it's the reason your fan is going? Are you on about the CPU fan or a case fan?
Re: BFTB - Wet Paint
i'm experiencing some delays as well, but since i'm usually on three forums simultaneously i've not really noticed it until now.

Re: BFTB - Wet Paint
An internet browser will require more processor use for the forum pages with the snow on - it's constantly running a small piece of Javascript (edit: the code author acknowledges that it is cpu intensive).
Anyone who wants the snow off can go into their browser settings and uncheck the "Enable Javascript" option (/disable Javascript, however it's phrased). Be aware that this might adversely affect other sites if the option is not restored.
