Not every one knows the full history of the characters before seeing the film, & also some concessions have to be made due to budgets costs or running length.. what makes a good comic book (or any type of novel), wouldn't always make a good film without changes...
this doesnt count for wolverine, i really dont think it is a good film even in it's own right! just wait until you see it, one of the main characters in it is just the biggest let down, even if you dont know who he is!

Holy cow. Did someone forget Chris Reeve? Superman 1 and 2 (Donner cut) were superb. Superman Returns got a 7 out of 10 from me, which is high praise as I'm a miserable git. Haven't watched V for Vendetta yet, but I've heard that's pretty good too. My mate keeps on banging on about Wes Craven's Swamp thing too, but I haven't seen that either.

For the small screen, Smallville, Birds of Prey and The Flash.
