the only thing with the whole we lost the roadblock rights is ( which is true )....... hes been showing up in the DDP comics now for 7 years as a MAIN character! so they could use him in the comics if they wanted too but the fact is HASBRO doesnt want them too as they dont have the rights anymore.
but ya just depressed, There was soooo much that could still be told from the old continuity which wont be now.
I wont buy the books , bottom line ( unless the book features the ARGEN 7 and action force fighting the RED SHADOWS and the other south american cobras and Joes ( NEVER going to happen) ,
really the only way the old continuity would be brought back is if sales tanked so hard they had to reconsider it.
nothing I can do about it sadly other than Not buy the book.
Again IDW is a good company, they produce good quality books and ryall is cool to interact with the fans like he does.
Its just obvious there not doing the book anymore for this 20 some years long reader.
To me the Joe world was getting REALLY interesting now its just plain boring by starting at the beginning.
oh well now GI JOE EXTREME can happen without anything contradicting it, if anything GI JOE EXTREME REALLY REALLY fits well with that continuity ! and I LOVE GI JOE EXTREME
The thing that annoys me the most is that Hasbro cancelled the Storm Shadow series, forced a rewrite of World War III and blocked The Coffin Special, because of this the continuity gone off on a whimper rather than a big bang (Baring in mind I haven't read Issues 35 & 36 yet, hopefully getting them delivered tomorrow and trying to avoid spoilers!)
I'm with you on the excitement around the IDW announcement, but they have got it bang on, a re-boot without Hama would have died on it's feet within a year, it'll probably be quite good and that's the most frustrating thing!!

well here is a little ray of hope for the RED SHADOWS not much but some at least
I would say make your voice heard by posting over at the IDW boards that you want to see the RED SHADOWS return
Ryall wrote:Eagleyes wrote:Since GIJOE was/is a counter terrorist organization by the USA, not simply created to fight cobra (I'm thinking GIJOE was proactive not reactive) will there be other enemies besides cobra with various rogue villians such as Firefly and Major Bludd, Zartan and the Dreadnoks, the Red Shadows (btw that's how to get Jarmar Miller interested) and Destro's MARS?.
There will be other enemies.................but no details on who or what is to come in the comics themselves.

I've just read the last issue and it's so easy to continue the series. I don't know what they're talking about when they're saying they don't know how to follow the series.

exactly there is sooo much that could be done
for one Id go back and write story arcs for each one of the battle zones that we only got panels of with tons of cameos, you could write WHOLE trade paperbacks on each on and make for some very good and interesting stories
then following up the series with sooo much more
theres sooo much that could be done still
bottom line is this
IDW wants to make it there own
Hama Probally didnt want to write a continuation series ( he turned down DDP on this ) and they wanted him ( but if I was a sole hama fan then I would be buying Spooks and Im not )
Idws a good company and will put out a quality product just not one Im interested in reading and importing to Japan
its the easy way out and the way for IDW to shine more ( show off thier company)
its not for the fans its for a company to maximize its name
Ryall is a great guy hes even trying to win me over at the boards but again Im just not interested in Alternate universes when the original universe doesnt exist.
Im getting beat up over at the IDW boards though,( god I hate some of those posters, no reason why so many joe fans dont go there ) Too bad too because Ryall seems great but the posters are ruining it .
I do wonder what happened to all the old fans, maybe there just leaving and Im one of the last to say anything? or maybe its just me and there really is only a handful of us,

call me crazy too but I actually like history its what makes the story interesting
I mean when I saw Major FLagg at the coffin with Major Bludd coming in I immediately thought OH THAT COULD BE SOME GOOD STORY TELLING because bludd killed his father
I love a story that has a lot of history to it one that I can discover when I want to and not have to wait years to find out if I dont want to.
I like doing the research and find out WHO WHY WHAT are they talking about
little nods to things that new fans dont have to know but old fans do remember is what makes the story interesting to me
going back to the begininng changing everything has no interest for me whatsoever
oh I should have said in the post above that THE COFFIN issue and the RED SHADOW battle with Cobra ( mentioned by Vaughn aka the black major) that wiped out alot of thier forces would be the two things I would have started out with
what makes these and the battles above interesting is you could make some orign type stories and what not happening in the battles and make interesting characters out of them
in the new Reboot series youll probally have "oh soldier one" was in Middle east on such and such mission and that is why hes good
well you could do basically the same thing with WWIII
Also anyone that says you cant go on needs to read the Storm Shadow series I loved that series and look what hama was able to do and bring to the character with a 25 year history /story behind him
so much more could have been done

I don't think we're the only ones, I think a lot of fans are just a bit knocked back at what's just happened.
The thread I created at joereloaded that you posted to has picked up similar people with the same opinion albeit not as much as I thought. You've got to remember that DDP Joe regularly outsells any of IDW's output bar the Angel series so it's there somewhere.
The IDW board is full of TF fans that used to be be buyers of Joe but have lost track of the continuity over the years (not all of them but a large majority) and want a fresh start that they can jump onto. Which is exactly what IDW want and I understand that. My mission now is just to make sure that voices like yours and mine and a lot of people that are annoyed are still there and would buy an original continuity.

There some decent guys on there, and a handful of tossers. Denyer in particular lives to post "yes, but..." I could strangle the pedantic f*cker.

I'm seriously thinking about writing a continuation myself now! Is that sad?

RED DAWN happends in that same universe so Im doing it somewhat now !
Red Dawn doesnt happen
after WWIII though ,so its not exactly a continuation. It happends
between the time when Flint Leaves the team in Americas Elite and he is seen again tracking down Wilder Vaughn aka the Black Major in The Sins of the Mother ( baroness arc).
It will hint at many things though that happen or will happen in WW III and EVEN beyond . ( really connecting the dots kind of things)
I just sent the entire issue 2 to the baron for editing and the last page to issue 2 ( the cliffhanger page) has like, a ton of references, to all kinds of things, that when its released im wondering if everyone will get / catch.
