Thanks chaps, I'm very satisfied with the whirlwind pic, myself, as it's the best cotton wool/smoke effect I've managed yet... it's a trick they used in Robocop for the stop motion Ed209 puppet.

What the hell were Hasbro's paint dept thinking when they came up with this one.. was it sabotaged by the My Little Pony design team?

They just thought "Thundercracker is a blue Starscream" and forgot about the other colors.
In fact, even though the other UK-only Action Master repaints also have some strange palette choices, I find it more forgivable because these aren't pre-existing characters, so there was some need of new colorations.

Loved the pose you put Skip into, Ed. That's pretty clever.
