I'm looking forward to reading the lost BAF classic 'Red Laser: The Scunthorpe Years' , I take it that the artwork was by Jim Watson.

Like so many things in life, yes, of course.

Opens with :laser: walking down a high street at 5.40pm just after everything shut, he couldn't get a wham bar or curly-wurly from W.H. Smith or John Menzies, and a used fish and chip newspaper wrapper scuttles past him as he opens with a typically introverted narrative, cursing the Baltic nip of the salty North Sea rain, frenziedly whipped as it is betwixt Atlantic west winds and the cursive froth of a half-wrought easterly from Scandinavia.

:laser: "I have of late, and wherefore I know not, lost all my tuck .. it goes so heavily with my disposition that the wight amplified stimulation of radiation is but a quintessence of dust ... why, the chip shop appeareth to me as nothing more wan a pestilential congregation of transfats."

Then, it hits him. After the copy of the Huddersfield Examiner discarded by a hungry chip shop patron that is.

:laser: "With the hydrophones lies my destiny. I can sell them to the Japanese governments to track SSBNs out of Vladivostok via the Kuriles ... or, I reverse engineer them, flip them ... sell them back to the Soviets AND to the Japanese government ... :laser: gains his revenge on his government after the Red Army Faction incident in the Netherlands ... AND seeks to build his own laboratory, somewhere like Brazil, far from this godforsaken arctic seagull shagsack where I hide from Interpol and the span-hangled Dutch politie*."

Exeunt omnes

:quick:

* :laser: arrived in Scunthorpe after blasting his way out of the Netherlands and hijacking a North Sea trawler and hiding in the ancient Samurai community of Barton-on-Humber where his ancestors learned the art of manufacturing a samurai sword from a Northumbrian blacksmith in the eight century AD.

I can vividly see the pages inked by the Jim Watson in my head, will probably have wait over 20 years to see most of them coloured though.

Indeed :(

Things get hot and Mike Western *allegedly* takes over the artwork for a couple of episodes somewhere in the Barents Sea, :laser: has dispatched the trawler crew and is reeling in the hydrophones, but his scuttling charges kick in early due to an unfortunate interface between a Casio wristwatch on Tokyo time and some scent-free semtex :laser: cadged from a Libyan at a PLO-Red Army-Black September training camp supplied by the CIA 'legend' Edwin P. Wilson on the cheap ....

... at that point, :laser: 's mystery buyer surfaces in his hunter-killer sub, acquired five years from Stromberg just before the denouement of "The Spy Who Loved Me". Hot-foot from having finished up brainwashing :major: , verily it is :baron: , the mystery buyer who has tripled the offer made to :laser: for the two-mile long sonic array and thrown in the possibility of a vast research budget and a dedicated silo at Mato Grosso Laboratories ... along with some laser-exterminating lieutenant duties.

:baron: " :laser: , it is your destiny .., "
:laser: "No, I mean yes, I mean no, I mean yes but nothing is working exactly as I wanted it too, oh woe is the :laser: "
:major: "Search your feelings, you know it is true, and only half a mile of hydro phone array to reel in ... "
:baron: " :major: , get to it, we have no time for narrative introspection on :laser: 's part at this critical moment of our vast criminal-political enterprise ... mwah-hah-hah-haaaaaaa .. everything is happening exactly as I predicted. Blood, blood, BLOOD FOR THE BARON!"

And thus the infernal trinity set in place the capstone of the Palitoy series two mythos.

Mark's working his colouring magic on this very story as we speak.

:laser:'s ninjadom depends if you take the Hamaverse into account or not: if we go Battle-only, neither :laser:, nor :firefly:, nor :snakes2:, nor :zartan: are ninjas; to be a ninja in a Battle-only 'verse, you have to be a total ninja like :storm: and nothing less counts.
Now, if we take the Hamaverse into account, like Jamar does in Red Dawn, :laser: is a ninja because he has a mask and enough of martial arts knowledge.
Martial arts + fancy costume = ninja (fictional version, of course)
