Steve, there's two versions of the Aussie JF accessories, one with machete/machine gun the other with ammo box/machine gun.

Good call!

The two guys are the same except for the head.... ( think the Minesweeper has Paratrooper head)
These are the only two figures to use the Jungle legs ....

I think I need to make a point here, before the beast rolls on and on.

A distinction has to be made when classifying between what is an actual variant and what is a simple painting error.

I've got a thread somewhere called 'friday afternoons at Palitoy' where we highlisted some painting errors/manufacturing errors. My Storm Shadow today is a perfect example.

What needs to be determined is what is a genuine small run production variation from the 'standard figure'. I would suggest a perfect example being the green pouch variant of the Series 1 Commando figure. There are many of these about, but in far more restricted numbers to the regular unpainted version, or the Q force Sonar Officer with blue painted leg ties, again a significant run, but much less than the regular unpainted versions. These are variants.

On the other hand, some of us will be chipping in saying 'my figure has a blue belt' or whatever where 99.9R% of the figures have, say, a black belt. This may well just be a painting error from that particular hour's production run. The guy working the machine had a hangover and a dodgy figure escaped through quality control. These would not be variants but painting/production errors. An example is my Q Force Diver below.

Perhaps I'm being too picky, but that's my take on things...

Excellent point.
I agree with you about ‘hangover’ figures and random things, rather than actual variants, and we need to be careful.

The idea for the project was to list major variations (e.g. different limbs, moulds, painted webbing, or the decal variations on the stormtroopers, that sort of thing) rather than a lighter or darker yellow paint they happened to be using that day.

The legs on that Minesweeper (Scout) are different to mine. Is that the short boot variant, Andy?

Thats the long boot variant Chopper - short boot has like little ankle boots (not very descriptive, I know, but no pics handy!)
