Here's some proposals that I take to be solid, but clearly whether they are fact or not is open to interpretation, and I lack the depth of knowledge that others have here.

1. He is from a family of standing

2. He is probably european

3. He has wealth and may well have been born into it.

I think, though, that he is British and was from an aristocratic family, though due to a combination of an adverse childhood and a machevelian streak his thirst for power developed into terrorism. I view him as a man who is highly intelligent.

I still think he's German, even if that's pre-1945 borders German, inc. Brazil etc (hence his obsession with vulgar little tribes and megalomania etc.)

Partly explains to a BAF audience the empathy with Baron-San thumbsucker numero uno , axis that dare not speak it's name type thing.

Now you mention it, Brazil or Germany both suit. Edging more towards Germany with the Baron bit, and makes more sense than british.

my fic kinda hints that he's the son of an SS officer who fled to South America. well, it out-right states his father was an SS officer, but the S American link is more subtle.
