Blood for the Baron!

Although I would test this one the different plastics first, I find watered down nail varnish remover helps remove smells, sticker residue and dirt.

I've been recently restoring Sealions using a method that brings back the whiteness of the plastic and make them nice and shiney. Cotton wool buds and pointy versions are great for intricate parts (all this I've learnt from Chloe and the damn ponies). Use too much or neat Nail Varnish Remover and you may find it eats the plastic.

Good tip there, although the other problem with not watering down the nail varnish remover enough might be that I'd end up as high as a kite whilst cleaning my Triad Star Fighter (but I guess at least that way I wouldn't notice how smelly my toy, oops, I mean highly prized collectable, was!)

We had a similar discussion on a Dutch board long time ago.

Nail varnish remover will always eat the plastic, even in dilluted form. Where do you think the 'shine' comes from? The shine is the result of plastic being eaten away. This method is not really beneficial for cleaning up you toys!

Household bleach does the trick, but it does take months to have an effect. Secondly, it only works on white plastic. It eats away the colour inside coloured plastics. We do not want that to happen.

Hydrogen peroxide is the best solution. It works fast and is reliable. There are multiple links found with very impressive results.

i was serious about bicarbonite of soda.

smother the toy in it in a box or something leave for a day or 2 then shake/brush off.
no need for any nasty chemicals. you can also add a little bit of lemon juice to the soda which will make it smell nice.

Thanks for some good ideas there. Not being too up on chemistry (I used to spend all my chemistry lessons drawing pictures of Wolverine and other comic book characters in the back of my exercise books), I take it Hydrogen Peroxide is the same stuff used to bleach hair? If so, will have a chat with my missus hairdresser (who also happens to be the bass player in an industrio thrash metal band that one of my mates once played with - hairdressing wasn't quite the day job I pictured him having before I knew that was what he did!) to see if he can get me some.

I believe we have some bicarbonite of soda knocking around the house, so I may give this one a try tonight. Unless the sprog has tipped the the whole lot over himself, as I've just received a phone call from basecamp telling me that he's managed to defeat all the child safety devices that I installed in our new kitchen last night! These were the same child safety devices I was going to install on my toy cupboard - not good news!

we had a playpen but he figured how to climb out of it long before he could walk.
when we put him in we would have to surround it with cushions and pillows.
same thing with the stair guard we would find him on the other side of the bloody thing.
