Once the limbs have been "popped" you will still need to split the crotch, but you have more room once the legs are gone, when the crotch is split it is much easier to prise apart with the arms out of the way. If the torso is being stubborn you then have the option of trying to prise apart through the arm holes.
I use stanley knife to split the crotch, and then use a large penknife to prise the two halves.
Usually you dont need to "pop" the arms, but I generally do .... just in case.
