Ah.... so are all of the Springfield's secret Cobra staging grounds then? Forgive my poor memory, but where was the Pit located?

Ahhh this would greatly depend on which Pit you mean. There were 3 of them (Cobra destroyed them every time they found the location of one). Not sure where Pit 1 was, Pit 2 was beneath the Motor Pool at Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island, New York. Pit 2 was self-destructed by Hawk in an attempt to kill Cobra Commander and Destro who were leading the attack on it.

Pit 3 was beneath a camp in the Utah desert. Don't have a copy of the comic in which that one gets wasted.

In the new Devils due Publishing series, the Joes have just finished Pit 4 as well as several smaller bases located around the country so their operations are not so vulnerable to one strike in future.

the mamba men story gives the whole baron ironblood becoming cobra thing so much credibility and it actually makes sense, Probally not what they originally intended but its amazingly close to what would happend later on and because of that it makes the whole transition more believable
