i prefer the old figures, thats not my point! yeah the old figures are cooler but i dont get why the new ones are so hated, thats all!
i would love to see 25th action force released, but i guess the demand isnt there?
also, i dont think the legs look anyworse or too long than the old figures did having ridiculously low knees!

last year I get the 25th G.I.Joe and Cobra, 10 figures....all I have now, since that stupid idea of donating all my collection when I was younger....well guess I´ll have to start collecting again....

I've bought over 150 of em since November. I love them, though I view them as Action Force. Flint is a perfect match for the Hopgood art Flint, and unlike the GI Joe art Flint, so we scored there, and the Lady Jaye looks like the AF version too. I'm making grey 25th filecards for the ones that are AF.

In the beginning I gave it a try. I really believed Hasbro would come with a small commemorative collection to celebrate the 25th birthday of GI Joe. How wrong I was. Hasbro smelled succes and a tidal wave of figures was released. No new designs needed, just revamp old sh*t. To me it appeared Hasbro wanted to cash in old successes. I bought the boxed 5-packs, and handfull of single packs and recently Arctic and Desert. All cool, but bottom down not really my cup of tea/beer/single malt.

I primarilly collect toys for a sentimental reason: stuff I had as a child but broke/lost, stuff I never got but wanted to have, cool stuff I never realised it was there at that time, etc. 25th holds no sentimental value to me.

Secondly, the posability of the figures is crap! The stands are ridiculous. Why is the peg located at the rear?
The hands are too soft to hold the rifles right. The Viper was a real disappointment. OK, you won't be getting any broken thumbs, but I want a figure to be able to hold its accessories.

And finally, in my eyes collecting new stuff has got hardly anything to do with collecting. To me collecting is hunting down my needs & wants, finding that little gem after years of searching. That still gives me a rush! Walking down TrU filling up a trolley or placing an order on the internet does not.

I think that hits the nail on the head for me too Jaye. I buy one or two modern things I think are cool, but other than that, it's old all the way for me. The thrill of the hunt, and the rush when you get something you've been after for five years, that you first wanted 25 years ago.

Only to pop it on the shelf, and start after the next on the list! That's why I will always be needing more room I think. I'll struggle to ever stop. I'm a collector. Of what, it varies, but ultimately, I collect.

(warning *rant* coming)

I've always loved the poseability of the original 3 3/4" line, and when the multi-jointed figs were introduced into the AF universe, I had figures that could sit in the SAS HAWK or use the Z Force Cannon comfortably. Fastforward 25yrs, and Hasbro have spent a lot of money/time/design in revamping and updating classic characters.
I also bought the inital 5 figure box sets, but the minute I took them out, I realised this was not for me, it was the same when Hasbro relaunched Joe in 2002, those bulky figures with the crap T-crotch, I realised then and now that my collecting (of mdern stuff) days were over. However in 2002 Hasbro realised their mistake and bought back the O-ring, then they screwed around with figure sizes and couldn't quite get a correctly proportioned Joe out.

I had secretly hoped that Hasbro would have listened to the fans and again try to alter their 25th line- which in some ways they did, they tried to remove the diaper crotch, but due to repaints this still remains a big problem, even with some of the figs that were blessed with new crotches (beachhead)- they still can't sit down properly, and I don't want to have to dremel every figure to be able to get full poseability. however the other big issues are SCALE/compatability, these new figs are 4", with incompatible leg and back back holes. Why should my new 25th Mainframe tower over my classic Roadblock, are they feeding the new Joes something different!
And when my Joes go on a mission, why do the 25ths have to walk whilst the classic guys can sit in the vehicle or stand on the footpegs?
I dont want to buy one AWE striker for the 25ths and keep another for the classics, I want them to use the same one.

don't get me wrong I really love Hasbro's enthusiasm with this line, the classic artwork and style, the lovely detailed accessories (to try and mimic Maruader John's success), the rerelease and reimagining of classic vehicles (all this does evoke good memories); but I collect 3 3/4" figures who have FULL poseability.

I know we cant all live in the past and that things must move forward (someday Windows will not be backwards compatible), but like a vintage wine or classic car; 3 3/4" figures are Gold, and the current modern stuff is never going to be as good.

I'm not bashing anyone who collects the new stuff, and I wil buy the odd new thing if it suits a purpose e.g. rerelease Sharc (not too "25th-modified"),

I get the feeling me and LJ may be in the minority though.

It is all a matter of perspective: kids will say vintage Joes are short, incompatible and look oldfashioned. GI Joe is a toy and toys are primarily intended for kids to play with. In my opinion Hasbro doesn't have to listen to that handfull of 'crazy' collectors that have not outgrown their childhood yet and who have all these silly demands: "Hasbro must do this, Hasbro must do that!" Come on, piss off!

It's not that I don't like 25th. It's cool, but not for my generation. It does not make my heart pound any faster, simply because there are no childhood memories connected to it. In 25 years time kids from today will have the same discussion we are having right now! 25th rocks, 50th sucks!

A child needs to harrass his parents to get what he wants. And when the parents finally agree, the child gets a rush on its way to the toy shop. Reliving that rush brings back the child in me. I can literally bounce with ADHD when finding a long sought after accessory at a flee market. 25th does not give me that rush. Being an adult with a more than sufficient income I can buy all the toys I want and still being able to pay my mortgage. Collecting new toys is nothing more than pulling out a stack of money and one, two, three, collection complete. That 50p accessory gives more rush than a trolley full of toys.

That's why I stopped buying and started collecting again.
