22 SAS Regiment is divided in to 5 squadrons, each split into 2 troops. each troop consists of an assault gruop and a sniper team...you do the math...

or there's an 8-man emergency response team based near London...

well, like i said...

maths.

the SAS is Battalion size element. 500 to 1500 men strong.

so, for arguement's sake, say 1000.

ah, hold up... (reading the wikipedia page, here)

the CRW wing is two troops, 2 assault groups and 2 sniper teams...

the main Sabre squadrons are 4 troops strong.

1000 divided by 4 is 250. ~250 men in a troop...

oh, fuckit. go with eight. that's how many were in Bravo Two Zero.

i thought the main attack group had 4 troops.
i think the original idea was 4 man patrols so bravo 2 would have been 2 patrols.
the idea is each 4 man patrol would have a varity of skills to cover any eventuality.
but again it really depends on the mission.
flexibility is the key.

well, the basic element in most armies these days is a 4-man fireteam.

then it's a squad, known in the British Army as a section, comprising 2 FTs (8 men)

but the SAS are different...

a BA FT is an NCO with an SA80 and 'nade launcher, a rifleman private (SA80), a private with a minimi (light machine gun) and a private with an L86 LSW variant of the SA80.

but, again, the SAS are different. (don't think they use the POS SA-80 for one)

i have a copy of an sas book called "the soldiers story" which gives personal accounts of individual soldiers involved in various missions. 1 of the soldiers slates the sa80 and writes that most in the sas prefer the m16. i really think its individual choice.
would recomend this book as it dosent go into the main missions but focus's rather on personal moments.
some of the stories are heart breaking but some are lol funny.
a nice insight to the men behind the masks.

But had the toyline continued that number would have grown.

It was a four-man :sas: team in the strips Operation Bloodhound and Operation Claymore too.
