Reading Alan Hall's Action Man guide volume 3, it ends with a photo of Action Force.

Alan states that the AF teams included SAS and Enemy, plus 'Heavy Brigade' and 'Deep Sea' teams.

Why Alan's book, which is incredibly researched on AM, is so slap-dash with regards to AF at the end is a mystery, especially when you consider that his shop has a stack load of box-fresh AF for sale, presumably there since the very beginning of the range back in the '80's.

The point I'm making is that maybe he wrote this final part using some early series 2 Palitoy reference materials, back when the team were perhaps still being developed?

We known that Z Force was originally called Heavy Weapons Brigade.

''Perhaps'' Q Force were originally named 'Deep Sea' team.

''Possibly'' along the 'SAS' team and the 'Special Weapons' team.

It's all 'if's' & 'maybe's', I know, but thought I'd add it in to the speculation.

In terms of the Action Force for sale, it won't have been sat on the pegs for 25 years, these were still being liquidated through some toy wholesalers as late as 1999, which is partially the reason they have had trouble appreciating in value when compared to other toylines.

No, indeed Dave, you've just added further confirmation to the point I was making, before the random off-topicness kicked in .

If this comes from the 1983 Palitoy Trade catalogue then all the more reason to believe what I was suggesting [and it explains were Alan Hall got his info].

My point is that the teams were initally not allocated letters, but given 'proper' names.

Heavy Weapons Brigade, Deep Sea Team, SAS Team, Special Weapons Team and The Enemy.

This trade catalogue was done with clearly very early Series 2 information [because of advance printing deadlines, etc] before the finished line was fully developed. There was obvious 'tweaking' done after this stuff was submitted for printing.

I am saying that at this early design stage, this is what Palitoy were going to call the teams, before some think tank decided that using single letter names was probably easier for 'the kids' to remember and to actually print onto the figures.
