i never read the comics with the Pallitoy characters. I had a load of the SAS and Z-Force toys and that was it. my only knowledge of Baron Ironblood was from the toy ads on the packaging and the cassette tape Ironblood's Revenge story.

with Hasbro's Action Force, i read the Marvel UK comics and had the toys. to me, the Marvel UK stories were part and parcel of what i today think of as GI Joe.

but both flavours of AF remain a big influence on me, cuz i keep coming up with multi-national anti-terror groups in my story ideas. and Marvel UK's Lady Jaye was one of the early central figures in my belief that women can be just as kick-ass as men, along with Col. Wilma Deering in Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.

and those 2 are also why i find women in catsuits sexy ;) 8-)

For me the best era of AF was the BAF time, when AF went over to Marvel i think it lost a lot of its epic gritty realistic style, the stories in BAF realised the original 'War on Terror' during the 70's and early 80's.Desert Strike for example could have been set during the war between Libya and Chad, these stories had an epic scale that lasted for weeks and months. The characters were also more rounded and realistic, unlike the characters during Marvels time.I can't speak for other fans but i prefered Duke's AF in BAF when the team was'nt from the US or UK with a few Americans,I think it was great to have a Mutt from Spain or a Sgt.Airborne from Italy etc... it carried the broad backgrounds the original AF characters had.BAF rules always :sparrow: :sas:
