Re: HELP!

Post by The Baron »

Cool, thankyou. I've actually found a kickass little program called therenameprogram which has let me change all of the filenames to lower case in a couple of clicks, a little bit more fiddling and I've done the same to the file extensions.

All I need now is a mass converter which can do the same for HTML content, I've been told that Frontpage 2003 does just that, and am waiting on a copy. So if nothing else, I can make it all Linux friendly, upload the whole lot again and switch servers.

There may be a couple of transition points where bits of the site muck about for the next couple of days, please bear with me.

Just a thought.

Whenever i leave the page i never actually log out, i just click X. If i come back on the following day if doesn't ask me to log back in although i have never clicked the "remember me" button on the log in page?

Could it be as simple as this? (Doubt it, i know bugger all about computers!)

Otherwise i'm with Jaye, i'll get the Hurricane fired up!

I spent hours renaming files and batch converting code yesterday and it just cannot be done. To make BFTB Linux-friendly will take a complete HTML rewrite.

I batch converted all files to lower case using therenameprogram, I then isolated every single file type by group and changed their extenions to lower case. I then downloaded a batch HTML converter and converted the whole site to lower case.

First problem was that all my Titles, Links and text pieces were also converted to lower case -should have seen that coming. Second problem was that it converted every single jpeg to mush.

So I downloaded my entire site as my backup disc was out-of-date (my bad).

I then did it all again converting everything to upper case.

And all of my margins went to hell, I headbutted the table and went to bed.

This morning I woke up to find this waiting for me:

Thank you for your query

Had the following back from the engineers

We have monitored the server hosting bloodforthebaron.com whilst browsing around the site, but have not found any open win32pipes. As such, we are happy to leave the site on the current server, but obviously if the site starts causing performance problems again we will need to move it back to a probation server.

Kind Regards,

We hope your Wednesday is a good one, have you seen our new Search Engine Submission product?
Three days of panic and stress, and no whisper of an apology. Suspicions abound.

Thank you to everybody here for their help, it would appear the reason we could not find a problem between us is because there never was one.
