Well, I stopped reading Trasnformers after Dreamwave folded becuase I didn't like the idea of another reboot, but was ordered to read them by a friend last month, and so I did. And I loved every minute of it! Ten seconds in and it doesn't matter that it doesn't follow on from what went before, because it's still my favourite characters in my favourite medium - as long as the story stands up in it's own right that's all that matters.
So, let's give IDW a chance, yeah?
My biggest concern is that they might want to reprint the Marvel UK Action Force strips, although I suspect if they do print a "classic" comic it'll most probably be Marvel US GI Joe.

I've managed to get in to the IDW Forum, I sent an e-mail to Chris Ryall, Editor In Chief of IDW and he activated me. What a really nice guy!!!!
I'm now getting my opinions in there now!!!
I still can't believe we're losing on the reboot poll!!! We need to get more guys in there!!
Baron - I think Marvel UK stuff will be fine. I think they're more looking at the US Main series as there's so much of it to reprint.

I've tried to register with the IDW forum, but though I got an email back they never activated my account, I've even emailed the address in their joining email but no joy.
Sadly from what I've read some of them are already dissing the Baron and this site. Shame on them.
I'll go into bat for our side as soon as I can. I feel I should have a voice as a regular reader and buyer of the Devil's Due Joe comics.
Destro - what was the email address you contacted to get your account activated?

its official by ryall himself, its a reboot Completely
depressed but liberated from having to buy GI JOE comics for the last 20 years I guess
as well as importing them the last few,
Ill save a pretty penny I guess
but already ROADBLOCK is gone and Heavy Duty is in ( I cant believe long time readers are accepting this, I mean I always preferred Heavy duty over roadblock anyways but not as a Complete 100 percent you never existed type of replacement )
you can kiss good bye alot of the characters we know and love too and the chances of the RED SHADOWS showing up is probally not good like -10%
IDW is a good company, I think that is probally the most depressing thing about it for me. as I know they are a good company , I know they put out quality product, and I can now only Imagine what they could do with the existing continuity , I know it would be extremely good. But sadly all new is what they are going for.
Im out as far as Joe comics
if they do an origin issue of SCOOP or quick kick or Alpine or some other guy we know nothing of I may pick it up if its a stand alone issue but that is a maybe,
looks like my joe comic reading is done
I wish them the best though ,I hope they have a long run that is successful for them but I just wont be there along for the ride.
depressed in Japan

I'm still unsure about the reboot thing, but on the whole I'm positive about it...
I can see benefits: the marvel/DD continuity can get a little silly at times, I quite often find myself treating things as a separate continuity anyway: sometimes I have to ignore the fact that snake-eyes & storm shadow have been fighting then making up for 20 years!
Plus having followed Battle AF then marvel and then more recently the Marvel & DD Joe stuff, each new set of writers have kind of made it like a reboot (I was looking at a marvel AF last night and Flint was from Basildon, and Lady Jaye was from Cork in Ireland)... the cartoons also represent a different continuity. So on the whole I'm not to concerned: it's something I'm used to!
Plus I think if the film creates more interest in the Joes a reboot will have a better chance of keeping the young 'uns interested, they don't have to go back through a few hundred issues of back story..
It's a shame to see continuity end though, despite it's occasional weaknesses it's a good read.
At least if the reboot is a mess it leaves the possibility of a return to an 'untainted' 'original' continuity...
Either way I'll be reading it.

You know, like a post Devil's Due where are they now thing?
Nah, I think that story should sit where it sits. It wasn't really left in a way that makes it easy for anyone to pick up from there anyway.

The final nail in the coffin. I am not happy is an understatement.

Depressed - Agreed.
Heavy Duty/Roadblock thing - Hasbro have lost the rights to use the character name Roadblock (Don't ask me how.)
Red Shadows - Less chance of appearing than Snake Eyes being rebooted as a female alien from the planet Zarg.
I was going to have a bring back the continuity campaign but I've been left a bit deflated by all of this.

ya I know what you mean, I was thinking of something too but felt the same way.
the only thing with the whole we lost the roadblock rights is ( which is true )....... hes been showing up in the DDP comics now for 7 years as a MAIN character! so they could use him in the comics if they wanted too but the fact is HASBRO doesnt want them too as they dont have the rights anymore.
but ya just depressed, There was soooo much that could still be told from the old continuity which wont be now.
I wont buy the books , bottom line ( unless the book features the ARGEN 7 and action force fighting the RED SHADOWS and the other south american cobras and Joes ( NEVER going to happen) ,
really the only way the old continuity would be brought back is if sales tanked so hard they had to reconsider it.
nothing I can do about it sadly other than Not buy the book.
Again IDW is a good company, they produce good quality books and ryall is cool to interact with the fans like he does.
Its just obvious there not doing the book anymore for this 20 some years long reader.
To me the Joe world was getting REALLY interesting now its just plain boring by starting at the beginning.
oh well now GI JOE EXTREME can happen without anything contradicting it, if anything GI JOE EXTREME REALLY REALLY fits well with that continuity ! and I LOVE GI JOE EXTREME
