Yes, the only way I can see to making the Red Shadows cool for kids again is to actually form them for real. Who's with me?

Only if you've got a WW2 German uniform in XXXL ... oh and in red of course.

I've got a loud voice so you'd hear me shout "Blood for the Baron!" from some distance away.

I've never fired a gun, so I may not shoot straight and I'm short sighted, so I'll only hit someone by accident.

See I'm an ideal recruit (well after 3 years at boot camp).

Seriously I think the reason why toys like Action Force aren't as popular today is down to the advance of toys.

Our generation entered the world where Action Man already existed but he was 12 inchs tall and very expensive. What's the point of having Army men if you can't build an army of them?

That's why Action Force appealed to us, because for less money you could finally build an army of these 3 3/4 inch plastic people, and tanks and planes to boot.

Plus in America at least I think the succes of GI Joe is what killed off Star Wars in the 80s. because they had better articulation and vehicles.

And as someone mentioned the key is interaction, that's why the likes of Action Man replaced tin soldiers who were statically posed. That's why toys like Action Force died off as video games got better and better, and more interactive.

Video games are still toys, just you have to use your imagination less, but then poseable figures required less imagination than tin soldiers who were little statues.

One bizarre thing I think I should mention is that growing up with all my army toys and comics, I always thought that when I left school I'd have to fight in a World War, like as if every generation had to fight a war. I don't know why I thought like that, my parents didn't have to fight or live thru a war.

some of us did manage to do sort of that when the gulf war came along, then there was the conflicts bosnia, kosovo and northern ireland but unfortunately they wouldn't send me iraq so i got out (it's not like we didn't go there the first time 30 miles over the border before being pulled out lol) but i was in bosnia at the time and government legislation came in stating 6 month tours then 6 months away (did 4 years before the crap legislation in bosnia plus when gurkhas(they ran out of saxon drivers) went to kosovo cause of the riots i had to go too) or i would still be camed up now :wheels:
anyways i was into all the toys had 30 action men command centre etc, star wars, action force and toy soldiers when i get time i know i have old pics of some star wars and action men but no action force pics for some reason (weird) and will post them
as soon as the atari came out i wanted that because my mate had it and thats what is happening nowadays (following the trend) and who knows it may well and probably will move away from gamestations back to figures, lego and train sets given time

:AFLogo: had its niche. We are all proof of that. If you slightly updated it today it would have a similar market share. We could market BATT (British Anti Terror Team) or similar, the enemy would be an evil megolomaniac with a website :baron2:, his deputy would be a hardened ex-serviceman/PMC chappie :major:, their chauffeur a lugubriously double-faced Frenchie with a side-interest in F1 (esp. the Nazi let's read Sartre and throw them on the trains at the same time type) :vulture:, the evil Japanese-North Korean avatar "cough" stereotype :laser: , the mutant cyborg with a surfeit of cunning :jackal: .

But, as I've wombled on about before, if COD4 is really :eagle: vs :shadow: / :firefly: , then the market for COD5 :AFLogo: vs :enemy: is already assured.

Anyone got some plastic moulds? I've got a website and a bored script-kiddie to boot. Oh, and spare Belgian BD capacity. Apparently I'm in one already so no prob for the auteurs to deliver some of the latest :AFLogo: stories.

:quick:

PS. As far as I'm concerned the War on Error is - or at least was at the start - a Bloodhound offshoot. On which note: anyone want to see my pics of Qala-I-Janghi?

Cool!

Minimi? I think it's called something else now "officially".

I need an expert opinion: what happened to the SA80 'long' that was meant to replace the Jimpy? (that's what you get when McKinsey are in charge of procurement and the idiots are in charge in general). Cos I don't see them anyway anymore. Oh if :AFLogo: had only had Jimpys, but, then, I always assumed the M60 was one. If you see what I mean.

Canucks seem to be big on the buzzsaw's and the M16 and M4 Carbine. But what they really need are Jimpys and ... er... Shad AK's!!!!!!??????? Just ask :beaver: with his WW2 primary weapon!
