Bugger!
There goes that theory!
I knew one you would come up with the goods and blast it to hell.
No, this is actually good news, we now know definitely that head decals and round mics go together.
Another nail in the coffin of this 'decal' model of Phases is the fact that the T1 Frogman has no shield but
does have a yellow zip, which surely would take as much time as applying a transfer.
I still think the two Phases exist, and that the Round Mic versus Long Mic is the key to this.
I'm just not sure how they fit together now!

Yup, this and a million other things.
Work, hospitals, trying to write two books, etc, etc,
But now I'm back, and kicking bottom.

Nothing too serious, actually not me but Mrs Hopper... all ok-ish now, thanks.
Book-wise - Foraging (trying to get a whole series published - written two, now doing the rounds), and literary pretensions - I'm writing a novel!

Interestingly, there are no Round Hand variants in Series 1 - they are all flat hands. This allows us to state definitively that the Flat Hand type came first in Series 2.
Thus, the Dufus Shadow came first, and then they re-tooled it to look better.
First Wave of Series 2 = Flat Hand, then the second wave = new plastic, new sculpts, Round Hand.

Sorry to hear that, hope all well now.
Foraging eh?
Novella - so... are you emulating Michael Horatio Kelly's "My Godawful Life" or "Roy Orbison in Clingfilm"? Or are you actually MHK and embarking on your third book "Pushing Pallets at Palitoy: Carry On Coalville"?

Let us have done with such doofi heresy!
Oh wait ...

Whilst I only remember them arriving in the shops in later 84 (and associated with the wave that autumn-winter) now you and Herr D have marshalled evidence to the contrary.

I've nothing to add to the theories but this thread is fascinating stuff. I can see a day in the near future examining all the AF stock I have for variations!

Tintin's post also a reminder you need to factor in

characters - check their mikes and such?
Speaking as a non-variant obsessive (although was it really necessary for mich und

to get those accessorised tassles in 84?) of course.
PS. Hmm, decided to look anyway
